GenCon Indy has a proud tradition of hosting and supporting Star Trek CCG events, especially in recent years. Even though the World Championships are being held in Europe, GenCon will still play host to one of the largest tournaments across the globe: the 2010 North American Continental Championships (NACC).

GenCon 2010 (www.gencon.com) is being held in Indianapolis, Indiana from August 5th through August 8th. The Continental Championships take place on Friday, August 6th and Saturday, August 7th, but there are other Star Trek events on all four days, plus thousands of other games and activities as part of the convention!

The First Edition NACC is on Saturday, August 7th and will begin at 4:00 PM. Players may register for the event as early as 3:00 PM. The First Edition NACC will be four (4) rounds. After the rounds have been played, there will be a final confrontation to determine the 2010 First Edition North American Continental Champion.

The Second Edition NACC will be using a slightly different structure than has been used in the past. Day 1 will be split into two tournaments (heats) and the Top 8 finishers from each tournament will move on to Day 2's best-two-out-of-three elimination bracket. Players can play in either or both of Day 1's heats (provided they do not qualify for Day 2 during the 1st heat) and may change decks between heats.

Second Edition's Day 1 Heat 1 begins at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 6th and will be five (5) rounds. Likewise, Day 1 Heat 2 will be five (5) rounds and will begin at 4:00 PM on Friday. Day 2 begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 7th. Registration for all tournaments begins one hour before the scheduled start time.

The seeding for Day 2 will be based upon one's placement in the two heats. The top 8 in Heat 1 will get the 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 seeds; likewise, the top 8 in Heat 2 will get the 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 seeds. In other words, 1st place in Heat 1 will match up against 8th place in Heat 2, and so on.

Individuals who have earned a bye for the First Edition Continental Championship will not have to play the first round of the tournament, earning full victory points with full differential. Similarly, those who have a bye for the Second Edition Continental Championship will not have to play the first round of Day 1, earning full victory points. However, since there are two (2) Day 1 heats, the bye will only apply to the first round of the first heat in which the player participates.

In addition to all of the Championship events at GenCon, there will be numerous side events, including sealed deck, draft, alternative format and standard format tournaments. Players are invited to view the entire Star Trek CCG GenCon schedule, as well as to both pre-register for events on this site and buy their badges and event tickets from GenCon as early as possible.

We look forward to seeing you in August!

I'm looking forward to both the NACC tourney and the side tournaments - if it's anything like last year, there will be plenty to do on all of the days between official tourneys, unofficial side games, trading, etc. We'll be there and ready for loads of Trek! :D

Judging by some comments of the article ("This makes it an official event for the Continentals season. ... OTF is The Continuing Committee’s format of choice for high-level First Edition games.") I think it'd be pretty safe to assume that it'll be Official format.
