Brian Sykes (Armus) Tournament Report - 2E - National 2023-12-11 - 12:00 AM 2023KCAHOF_5.txt Introduction I need one more win with KCA to get the KCA Master Achievement, so I go for it here. Round 1 Markus Eberlein FL (-60) Markus is playing a net decked Cardassian machine. Cardassians are good, and he's able to get some key stops early with minimal dilemmas under which makes a difference down the stretch, as I can't stop all the tech. FL 40-100 Round 2 Daniel Giddings FW (+1) Danny is playing 5 Space Equinox, but with old school tech as he actually has 5 Delta space missions and NOT the 5SV mission. I get everything but a ship early, and I'm able to get all 3 Distant Explorations out before I even attempt a mission, but I'm definitely behind the pace. When I finally do get out, he murders my people with his dilemmas and makes me sad. I'm able to reinforce with my Delta Klingons playing right to the ship, and a timely Kortar brings back a couple more to keep the party going. I can't keep Expedient Opportunity on the table, as Danny keeps blowing it up. The Intendant and Second Edition keep hope alive through the mid game as I keep grabbing more Delta Klingons out of my deck to throw into the meat grinder. Meanwhile, unlike my deck; my dilemmas are actually coming to work and doing a fair job of holding off Danny's beefy crew, though he's overcoming 1-2 dilemmas every attempt and multi-attempting thanks to his silly interrupt nonsense, so I'm definitely on a ticking clock. I finally manage to solve a mission and get a second ship into play thanks to some help from the Thetas, which is clutch because I'm down to 5 people in the Delta quadrant. Danny solves 3 missions and time gets called during his 4th mission. I throw everything I have to hold him off and manage to get the stop, but it's 100-50 and I have one shot. I fly my guys home, pick up the crew at my HQ, go back out with the other ship and attempt with 9, giving Danny 7. He throws 4 dilemmas, Chell's my first Standard Punishment, I play a second to get enough Integrity for Guys Who's Coming to Dinner, get 3 more stopped by the rest of the stack, and anything I count it up, I'm JUST short... but I have the THIRD Standard Punishment to put me over and complete a highly improbable rally for the win! FW 100-100. Round 3 Alexander Schmitz FW (+100) Closing Thoughts Not the best KCA deck I've ever built, but I think the concept has potential. It might be worth refining.
