Tournament Report - 2E - Online Event
2012-12-10 - 12:00 AM
TOSCall the Stewardess, Vaughn... I Need One of Those Bags
Introduction
With the Online League rolling into V-only territory this month, rather than rehash an older build I elected to break in a brand new Money, Inc. design. Considering the talent-laden field I anticipated a 3-2 record, but as I relearned in this event sometimes the best option is to take the path less traveled.

Round 1Michael Van BreemenFW (+100)
The People's Champ was schooling me on Equinox, but found himself strapped for personnel early thanks to Hard Time and Warm Welcome. Once my ALC time bomb went off, he spent the rest of the game digging for warm bodies while I plowed through skill dilemmas on the ground and in the air. FW 100-0.

Round 2BorgMatthew ZinnoFW (+100)
Zema Ion was kicking it with Borg Dissidents, and as a recent convert to 2E held his own despite the significant gap in experience. However, ALC's game text left him de-staffed, and with only a single non-Sphere 117 ship in his build he wasted too much time searching for it to mount a comeback. FW 100-0.

Round 3VoyagerAndrey LarinFW (+60)
The Living Legend was also angling on abusing Equinox, but got greedy after solving his first mission and lost everyone he had in play thanks to ALC. With Dukat and Palmer eliminating verbs and his cage sufficiently rattled, I double attempted my way to victory in this good-natured encounter. FW 100-40.

Round 4RomulanTyler FultzFW (+25)
The Truth was utilizing big Romulan, and deftly dodged an ALC de-staff despite a draw deck misfire. Exceptional dilemma play kept him in it until the bitter end, when both an early Machinations and a mid-game Helen Noel left him short of options in the face of a 20-man hard way attempt at TCS. FW 100-75.

Round 5RomulanTjark OttFW (+100)
TNT was also looking to big Romulan, but was de-staffed at his first mission shortly after pitching a Christening. With Bitter Medicine slowing down attempts throughout and an Insurrection stacked on Investigate Destruction, Scotty nuked a Quarantine late to lead The Originals on to victory. FW 100-0.

Closing Thoughts
Kudos to our Organized Play Czar for forcing playoff qualifiers to prove their mettle in 3 distinct disciplines: Standard, Traditional, and Virtual. It was a refreshing off-season challenge that separated the all-around pros from the standard specialists, and a series I could easily see myself emulating at King of the Ring next year.
