It's Been a Long Time... But My Time is Finally Near |
Introduction |
With The Kaiser's Starfleet victory last year still fresh in mind, I dug up an ancient Starfleet deck circa 2009 and retooled it for this Online League throw down. However, the lack of Alvera Tree Ritual and Unexpected Difficulties hurt more than I could have imagined as I stumbled to an uncharacteristic 2-2 record. |

Round 1 | | Oliver Thust | FW (0) |
The Outlaw was testing TOS battle, and destroyed both a copy of A Sight for Sore Eyes and a ship with crew before I caught up via a Dreamer and 2 shots of At What Cost? On the verge of a double deck out, I stone walled him in space via a Shran aided second dose of Moral Choice to steal one at the buzzer. FW 70-70. |

Round 2 | | Charlie Plaine | FW (+70)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Chairman was co-chairing K.Ri.S., but had no answer for a turn 3 aSfSE / AWC? combo due to a verb heavy opening draw. Despite getting hung up at Investigate Alien Probe for several turns, solid dilemma play kept him in it until Maxwell Forrest shrugged off a Dignitaries and Witnesses at Salvage Borg Ship. FW 100-30. |
My opening hand was horrible - no people! Kris got ASFSE going on turn 3 and I didn't see a Brunt until it was way too late. I managed to keep it close but the writing was on the wall for this one early. |

Round 3 | | Johannes Klarhauser | FL (-50)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Kaiser was also employing Starfleet, but beat me to the punch as his aSfSE / AWC? engine roared to life while mine stalled out. After losing the race to space I knew it would be an uphill battle, and with Shran constantly dodging random selections I never had a chance to make up any ground. FL 100-50. |
I really should write game reports right after the game, otherwise the rounds just blur into each other and I can't be bothered to work from the lackey game logs. I do remember that in this mirror matchup I was the lucky guy who solved a space mission first. Kris' dilemma play was flawless, as far as I can tell, and had he drawn into a dreamer at the right time, the game would have gone the other way. |
|
Round 4 | | Daniel Matteson | FL (-40) |
The Gunslinger was packing a speedy TNG solver, and was gifted two missions early thanks to back-to-back atrocious dilemma draws. With my pile misfiring from the onset, a couple safe dilemma plays and a timely use of Sloan kept my remote protege comfortably in front from start to finish. FL 100-60. |

Closing Thoughts |
Despite my best efforts to remain a constant threat each time out, roughly once a year I hit a banana peel and it appears this event was the 2013 installment. Rather than dwell on what might have been, I'll instead learn from the experience because, when it comes to league play, it's not how you start it's how you finish. |
