Hi, I'm Looking for Ray Finkle... and a Clean Pair of Shorts |
Introduction |
Scrambling for a new design due to a series of errata issued on the starting date, I hastily threw together an achievement orientated TNG Federation deck for the online league finale. Even though I went in with a jobber mentality, the crunch time creation performed rather admirably all things considered. |
|
Round 1 | | Christopher Coyle | FL (-100) |
Captain Charisma was administering Dominion, and had a staffed battleship parked at my space mission within three turns. Despite getting a pair of desperation attempts in that were facilitated by The Cloud, a troop of Jem'Hadar and a Transport Inhibitors effectively locked me out from start to finish. FL 100-0. |

Round 2 | | Stephan | FW (+30) |
Prizefighter was utilizing First Contact Feds, but struggled to keep pace with my Let's See What's Out There fueled free reports from the onset. With him pinned down by a Medical Crisis at Insurrection, I side stepped a Friendly Fire at Restore Errant Moon to nail down the victory at the wire. FW 100-70. |

|
Round 3 | | Rem Boon | FW (+100) |
The Blue Meanie was also looking to movie based mains, but failed to pass Precision Piloting in an attempted theft of Host Metaphasic Shielding Test early. Seizing the opportunity, I solved it for 50 points before churning through an Executive Authorization at Earth to lock up the win in this warp speed encounter. FW 100-0. |
|
|
Round 4 | | Niall Matthew | FW (+17) |
The Midnight Rider was schooling me on Mirror Quadrant, but was hung up for ages by a well placed Linguistic Legerdemain. Forced into solving four missions as a result of heavy point loss from The Higher... the Fewer, a late arriving Edward Jellico cleared a RAGS at Reported Activity to steal one in this laugh filled affair. FW 100-83. |

Round 5 | | Johannes Klarhauser | FL (-25)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Kaiser was engineering Past Klingon / Federation, and downloaded at will early thanks to my absent Q the Referee. With the game on the line a timely Docking Procedures bought me a final turn, but a lack of Science for Hanonian Land Eel slammed the door on my upset bid. FL 100-75. |
vs TNG Feds. We shared Earth right in the middle of the spaceline, and my IAP was dangerously close to Kris' Host Metaphasic, so I self-seeded my Cytherians there so the Scientists would have a harder time stealing it with Kurak.
Kris attempted on turn 2, and lost five people to Implication/Flapjacks/Land Eel. I tried to match his quick start and peeked at Agricultural Assessment, found a Dead End, and moved on to Repair Mission, where The Arsenal: Divided stopped me. Kris had to STP his empty ship to hand because it had been destaffed, so had a turn to form a crew that could get by The Arsenal. McCoy nullfied The Cloud, but both my ships were damaged by the Gomtuu that followed. Kris was struggling to find a SCIENCE to get by the Land Eel, but he eventually cleared it the turn after I passed the Gomtuu and completed Repair Mission, so the score was 45-40 to me. Kris moved on deeper into my territory to a space mission with only 2 under. He cleared it and completed it for 35 points, but by that time I had completed Oo'noS for 30 (Founder Secret/Flapjacks killed several, including McCoy/Medical Crisis, which I passed with Nurse Alyssa and some equipment), so we were sitting at 75 each. I wanted to resume work at AA, but Kris' docking procedures shut that down for that turn, so it was Kris' game to win. He made the bold move and attempted at Earth with a big crew, lost a guy to Horta, lost Agyer to Unscientific Method, then was stopped by his own Land Eel because of a Lack of Science. On my turn, I put Officer and Transporter Skill on one of the ships in orbit to protect against Crisis/Now Would be a Good Time, and attempted with all the rest. Kris thought A Fast Ship Would be Nice, so I gave him my Future Enterprise. The last dilemma was Linguistic Thingy, which I was able to pass for the win. Close one, and a lot of fun! |

Closing Thoughts |
While a 3-2 record is hardly celebratory, given the circumstances I'm quite pleased I was able to hang tough in the shark tank that is the online meta with a build that is by all accounts outside my comfort zone. As I continue relearning the game, I can look to performances such as this and see the effort being put in pay dividends. |
