Ready to Die |
Introduction |
This was an OTF constructed tournament, but since my playgroup had very little deck building experience, I built all the decks myself and let the players choose which ones they wanted. Two of the decks were of my own design and two were existing deck designs from other players. The deck I used was a copy of J's "Ready to Die" Starfleet deck from his published article. |

Round 1 | | Leslie McGinty | MW (+10)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Clearly most of my playgroup hasn't really mastered the concept of time locations yet, as nobody really understood what I was doing when I reported to my time locations and drew cards, and just sort of ignored me until I made it to the spaceline. Leslie was playing a Federation/Bajoran Continuing Mission deck that I designed myself, originally intending to play myself to try for the gold Treaty Victor achievement. All of my games ran to time; this one I won with one mission to Leslie's one mission, but mine was 35 points plus 5 for a mission specialist, and hers was 30. She was stalled out after her mission as her away team was trapped on the planet by a Duonetic Field Generator and she had to work on restaffing her ship. |
Dan was playing an Enterprise deck. To be honest, he had SO much going on that I was left a little confused as to what was happening on his side of the table. I focused on trying to complete missions so I could just start earning points as much as possible. I managed to earn 30 points before my entire away team was stuck on a planet, causing me to not be able to continue on. I used the Finest Crew In The Fleet to re-staff my USS Enterprise that was floating without a crew to try & get started again but ran out of time & lost to Dan who beat me by 10 points. |

Round 2 | | Robert McGinty | ML (-40)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Robert played the other deck I designed, a TNG Romulan build with Continuing Mission. He managed an early 40 points with one mission and then stalled out as he ran into trouble with dilemmas. He changed his tactics as I emerged onto the spaceline, ambushing me with multiple ships. I managed to do some damage but lost my Enterprise with most of my personnel, and ran out of time scoreless. |
Daniel was playing an Enterprise deck that included alternate timelines. I didn't really understand what was happening, I just accepted that he was following the card texts and dealt with things as they came to me.
With my Romulans alone in the present timeline, while Daniel furiously set up alternate timeline staff and time travel combos, I came out swinging by completing my first mission with bonuses for 2 Mission Specialists, taking the lead with 40. While Daniel awaited his first ship draw to allow him to join my timeline, I began having roadblocks with the Romulan deficiency in Diplomacy, hitting many dead ends. I also couldn't draw Engineers very well. I knew that his Enterprise crew would eventually be emerging at Earth, so I kept the Romulan and Mercenary ships within arm's length of it for the inevitable conflict.
My mission attempts hit another dead end when my main crew attempted a plant mission that killed its captain by random selection. There goes Captain's Log, along with my only source of Honor. That crippled me for the rest of the game.
The original Enterprise finally showed itself, with a crew of Archer, T'Pol, and Tripp among others. Their stats were lower, but he'd safeguarded with a few cards to boost the stats for one turn. Romulan xenophobia kicked in...I immediately confronted it with two ships before it even reached a mission. His ship was damaged and he was able to prevent a direct hit via his seeded cards, which luckily was only a one-shot deal. (I failed to notice that I could have had a Scout Vessel join in for a 3rd source of firepower if I'd just juggled staff, as we were right next to my outpost.)
So the Archer crew was able to limp away and head for Daniel's Neutral Outpost, but was unable to make repairs. I then drew the captain of another ship I had just sitting at my outpost, revitalizing Captain's Log. I was able to have my Mercenary Ship swoop in, beam its lone Klingon over to help pilot the new ship, and obliterated the original Enterprise with all its crew.
At this point we only had a few minutes left before time and I won thanks to my one mission with 40-0. |

Round 3 | | Ian Coleman | ML (-85)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Ian played a Federation Flagship: Relaunched deck, with Launch the Phoenix and Free Orion Slaves as two other sources for free reports. This deck worked well for him as he solved two missions very quickly for 70 points, but like Leslie before, got temporarily stuck on a planet with Duonetic Field Generator. I had terrible luck in this game, getting onto the spaceline very late, having bad luck with dilemmas, and actually losing points, never solving any missions before time ran out.

My dad, Daniel, was a great opponent. He was really good at making combos for missions. He was able to stop me a few times. Although, after being beaten twice. I could NOT take 4th place. So, I went on and completed 2 or 3 missions. He tried his best and had 2 ships running around. We both had Earth as a planet mission. So, I decided not to go for it and let him clear the dilemmas, after knowing what I put under there. I used Time Travel to help me get the things I needed. I was trapped on a planet for about 4 or 5 turns. My Duck Blind card helped me get what I needed to get out. 3 engineer, that was hard to find. Although, on his last turn, he tried to get out of negative (He was at -5.) He hit my Edo Probe and decided to continue on then hit Dead End and of course didn't have 50 points if he was in negative, so got even MORE negative! Grand Total... dah, dah, DAH! 70 - -15. ..........LOL. No offense. EPIC FAIL. |
