Tournament Report - 2E - Worlds Day One |

What do you mean you're doing it again?! |
Introduction |
The big day and I decided to play my 1-person Bajoran deck once again. I was looking to go 6-2 based on random luck to get me into Day 2. |
|
Round 1 | | William Hoskin | FW (+70)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
If it's a Hoskin this year in Worlds/Continentals then they're playing Klingons apparently. Will saw what I was playing and went as fast as he could (once again, Unfair Comparison piles don't work against this deck...) but I was able to pull out the win. |
Yay MVB in the first round, 1 of 2 people I didn't want to face in round 1. (the other was James who I didn't play all day). When we sat down we saw the missions we both knew the decks. I tried to get out and solve as fast as I could but alas MVB hit thing and I had no chance of top decking a dilemma until the last mission attempt hoping to hit a Distress call. No Luck Its anothe rgreat but fragile deck from MVB. |

Round 2 | | Greg Dillon | FL (-35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Romulans is a bad matchup for this deck to begin with but it was just bad - T'Auethen took out one Covenant, Secret Agenda took out another so that was out and there was nothing more that I could do. I still managed to get through several missions despite it all. |
When I saw Michael's missions I immediately thought "Thank God I read almost everything on the CC forums" because if I didn't read about the Covenant abuse in the sill Ferengi thread after NACC he would've rolled me. I planned to chew through my deck to get GPTs and Uninvited in my hand for his 'big' turn (or Holding Cell) but I drew Tal in the first couple of turns which allowed me to scan his hand for any Covenants and time my T'Authen/Secret Agenda. With two covenants gone Michael played the deck like a normal one (apparently he'd never had to do that before) but having to do 4 missions via normal attempts was never going to be fast enough and I finished while he was on his third. |
|
Round 3 | | Kenneth Tufts | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
He was playing a Sight for Sore Eyes/Not Nathan Samuels deck but wasn't drawing anything to get it going. Between that and the occasional successful dilemma play I was able to hold him off for the win. |
hey it's MVB I tryed to slow his rocket slightly by lustfulling every event as it hit he table before he had the counters in hand but that was only tempory I was rollign along ok when his rocket took flight, unfortunutly when it did i had 3 planets dilemmas on top of my deck atteh first one i drew my one it was 3 cost the next 2 were in space and that next dilemmas was a 1 cost one, but still a planet so sadly one dilemma sooner i coudl have stalled him more prolyl not enought for the win but a closer game at least. I love seeign his decks in action and this was a beauty. |
|
Round 4 | | Ben Dillon | FL (-65) |
This game was more of a I-can't-seem-to-hold-him-off with my dilemmas game than anything else. Holding Cell got blocked, Tal kept downloading people or cards if I didn't take them out of my hand and so on which again made this a bad match-up for me. |
|
|
Round 5 | | Kieren | FW (+35) |
This was the game that ultimately got into Day 2. Sisko was someone that I had forgotten about and had no defense for him. I had to work through each mission one by one which was not something that I had intended on doing but managed to do here (Couldn't exceed since the ship was damaged twice) Luckily my dilemmas were able to hold him off from three missions while I needed four. Ultimately I needed the last of my cheaters in hand with some Basso attribute boosting to get through my last mission just before time ran out. |
|
|
Round 6 | | Jay Coad | FL (-20) |
He was playing the same deck that he played last night but, thanks to my dilemmas the night before, he added more Transporters to the deck. Unfortunately my dilemmas weren't helping me this game and I got stopped by his Secret ID on the second or third mission, making this rather quick. |

Round 7 | | Unjustly Banned | FW (+40)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
A repeat of Continentals with the same result almost identically since we were both playing the same decks. |
Michael was playing his Bajoran Covenant dilemma avoidance deck. It was the same deck (more or less) as the one he played at the North American Continentals. That wasn't great, because I was playing the same Klingon deck (more or less) as the one I played at the North American Continentals, and Michael beat me there by one turn.
Knowing I didn't have long to win, I went all out speed in this game trying to complete my three missions before Michael was set up. Things looked promising when I completed Investigate Alien Probe in one turn. Michael stopped one, and took another out with Hard Time, but I could still complete. The following turn, Michael gave me Intimidation at Rescue Prisoners. In a team of 8, I only had one non-Klingon (Riker). Guess who got picked first? Yep, it was Riker. That meant I could complete the mission that turn, and move on to Brute Force with the six guys I still had. They were stopped, but I figured I still had time. The following turn, I picked up reinforcements and attempted again. Michael stopped me, but left me with enough overcome dilemmas that I could auto-complete on the next turn.
Just like at GenCon, this was when Michael decided to make a move. My only chance was to stop his attempt at Investigate Maquis Activity. He attempted with five personnel and I drew two copies of Hard Time, The Captain's "Guest", The Caretaker's "Guests", and a space dilemma. I figured I had a chance if I stopped three with The Captain's "Guest" and then took one out with Hard Time. Unfortunately, I played The Caretaker's "Guests" instead of the The Captain's "Guest" and it was game over. Whoever I took out would be replaced by Bareil.
(shakes fist) Next Time Michael... Next Time...

Round 8 | | Robert Dawson | FL (-20) |
If I won this, I knew that I would make into day 2. Robert was playing a Starfleet/Nathan Samuels deck that got out in a hurry. He had gotten two missions before I went on my way but got stopped by a top deck dilemma again. |

Closing Thoughts |
Thanks to all of the timed games even a 4-4 record could get both myself and James in. |
