Introduction |
Tournament report: 2023 European Continental
I chose a risky drone-deck with four missions of 40+ pounts with HQ: Defensive Measures to prevent stealing. My strategy was to solve three space missions for 140 points. My draw engines were Temporal Almanacs, Intuition with Sarin (Defend Homeworld download) and The Guardian of Forever. |

Round 1 | | Jorn Engstrom | FW (0) |
That game went very well for me. The Borg stayed in their quadrant and only scouted one mission, while I was able to solve my three missions.

Round 2 | | Stefan Slaby | FL (-100) |
I had played Stefan once before in the Austrian Nationals in a crazy Neutral Zone game with several missions we had in common. So when we both revealed Mendak as our Temporal Benefactor we knew it would be crazy again.
In his first turn Stefan tried to steal my mission and the countdown of HQ: Defensive Measures started, which forced him to solve one of his own missions, while I got stuck at simple wall dilemmas where I was a security or an officer short of getting past.
It was already pretty obvious I was going to lose, but then I made a big mistake and forgot to play HQ: Defensive Measures again. Stefan, of course wasted no time and stole two of my missions and won. With better card draws I should have been able to at least get some points. I definitely learned a lot and Stefan´s deck was awesome. He is a master deck builder.

Round 3 | | Jan | FW (+65) |
Jan came back to the game after 20 years, and played a TNG/Movies federation deck with Squires Rules. I was happy he would not be stealing my missions, but working through those dilemmas with one personal stopped for each one, was hard work.
While I was slowly fighting my way past those dilemmas, Jan was building up his crew and solving the mission I least expected. After my plague ship wiped out most of his personal on the table in his second mission attempt, I was finally able to finish my third mission.

Round 4 | | Peter Ludwig | FW (+15) |
The moment I had dreaded most had arrived. After Peter had lost to Stefan too, we got paired in the final round. So far I had faced Peter in several tournaments and never won. Again I was safe from mission stealing, since he played a mirror empire deck.
Of course I started my mission attempts earlier than Peter and encountered a dead end (how did he know I would attempt that mission first?). My second attempt got me Interphasic Plasma Creatures (of course with doubled requirements) and Peter doubled the effect with one of his interrupts. My officers were too weak to open the maglocks then. The third mission had the same dilemmas, so I was stuck with one dead end and two maglocks. I thought the game was over.
In the meantime Peter solved two missions and was about to solve the third, when stupid me realised, that I had a reman disruptor rifle that turned my reman security into officers with enough strength to open maglocks. I was lucky I got to play another turn before Peter would have finished his third mission. So in my last turn I just had to collect the points from my missions. If I had played a different deck, Peter would probably have been able to stall me with a ton of his interrupts.
100 - 75 |

Closing Thoughts |
I´m quite happy with the result of the tournament. Drones are obviously very strong, maybe a bit too strong. I feel a little bad for Peter, who had to face drones two times and that is probably the only deck where most of his interrupts don´t work.
I don´t think I will use 40+ missions again in future tournaments.
It was awesome to meet so many players from all over the continent(and the island nearby ;) )
Johannes was an excellent host! A big thank you for hosting Kaiserfest and investing so much time and work. I had a good laugh with the price package the next day :)
