Other Information: In less than a month the third European Biermeisterschaft (and the second Continental BM after the one in Australia) will take place in Potsdam near Berlin.
After last year's glorious event in the Asram, about 25 meters from the Steigenberger, event location of last and this year's European Continental Championship (you know, the one where drinking beer is only optional), the Asram unfortunately was closed and the Chairman of the World Biermeister Association (WBA) had to look for a new location which is unfortunately nearly twice the distance from the Steigenberger. But we're confidant that even the most inebriated participants of the Euro-Biermeister will find the way back to the hotel, since the approximately 40 meters are just along the sidewalk of one block, and only one street has to be crossed - and it's nearly a cul-de-sac.
On Luisenplatz 8, right across Potsdam's (slightly smaller) version of the "Brandenburger Tor" is the Contadino, an Italian restaurant which not only has half-liters of Wittinger and Weizenbier for Euro 2,90, but also has a special price for several pizzas, only Euro 3,50. Perfect conditions for the third European Biermeisterschaft, tables of about a square meter under big sunscreens (or whatever you call those umbrella-like things), and even if they normally close at midnight, we're allowed to play until 00:30!
The European Biermeister is supposed to start at 7 pm on Friday, if your plane, train or automobile can't make it, nethertheless register early and we will try to make it possible for everyone to somehow participate from round one (online games would be one possibility, albeit all beverages have to be consumed before witnesses on the actual Friday.)
Winners of European BM nationals (I know only of Daniel Sinner) can use their bye: additional 0,3 liters that have to be consumed before the first round in one quick continuous gulp ("auf Ex"), similarily the continental champions may use this advantage at the first Weltbiermeisterschaft, which should take place in the middle of November near London.
The starting fee of 3 Euros (may be reduced if monies from the "main event" are redistributed) is necessary to uphold the fine price support which won't have to do much with Star Trek this time, but a lot with beer, even though it won't be neither liquid nor made of glass. To guarantee sufficient price support, please register soon on www.open-cards.de
One last word on the price support: Trust the WBA chairman, after you have filled your belly and brain with beer, these fine prizes will also fill you with pride and will make great souvenirs. Decades later you may tell your grandchildren of this glorious event. It's a good day to get drunk!
A German version of this text can be found on www.open-cards.de, information on the Biermeister rules are found here (http://www.open-cards.de/node/118), and the current WBA thread is found here (http://www.trekcc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4205).
