Introduction |
European style Voyager, this time with a ship killer pile. |
|
Round 1 | | Tjark Ott | FW (-10) |
vs Tjark: I completed Caretaker's Array on my third attempt, then got stopped at my planet mission. Tjark stalled me quite a bit with Hard Times and Polywaters when I didn't have Chakotays out to prevent the stops. I hit Tjark with a Quantum Filament at Kressari, but I didn't draw a second damage dilemma. Still, I flew over with the Delta Flyer, put a second damage dilemma on it, and forced Tjark over to a planet. There, I managed to hit him with a Greater Needs and the ship was destroyed. No personnel were killed, but at least they were stranded for the time being. Tjark's stranded crew eventually completed Survey New World, and together with points from a Prison Compound and Labor Camp, he was on 90 (Over the course of the game, dilemmas, Evek and Ensared had captured Chakotay, Tuvok, Syrran and Seven of Nine.) Before my third attempt at Instruct Advanced Drone, I played Enterprise-J again and attempted with 5 (3 under). Tjark gave me The Captain's Guest, but I didn't have the keyword he named with me, and with Revised Chuckles preventing the stop and Cavit doing his thing, I scored the third mission. |

Round 2 | | Ben Hosp | FW (-95) |
vs Ben: Stopped at Caretaker's early on by a Legacy that Ben immediately recycled with The Trial Never Ended, but I completed on the second attempt. Revised Chakotay got Ensnared, and Ben's crew of seven was stopped by An Issue of Trust when I cancelled The Central Command with a GPT. I played more guys, flew over to my planet mission and attempted with 9. After three cheap stoppers that stopped one guy each, I had just enough Strength to beat a Mugato (I had to give Ben 5 points with Gav to cough up the second Security) and also had all the attributes to pass both the Greater Needs that followed and the mission requirements. Feeling lucky, I flew my remaining six guys on to Instruct Advanced Drone. Ben gave me a lone Legacy. I revealed Show Trial and two non-skills, Ben revealed one skill dilemma - and two copies of Legacy. Ouch. To add insult to injury, my crew had the skills to complete the mission (I hadn't bothered checking before and just wanted to get some dilemmas under), and the game was over much too quickly. |

Round 3 | | Nicholas Yankovec | FW (-100) |
vs Nick: the complete opposite to my game against Matt, all the draws in the deck and dpile went in my favour. I had an Energize out on turn, and was able to use Samantha Wildman to play Navaar, Weyoun, Syrran for free. Nick attempted with 9 in space, I used Hindrance and drew a perfect combo of Well-Prepared Defenses / Rogue Borg Ship / Healing Hand / Moral Choice / Gomtuu Shock Wave that put two damage markers on his Qel-poh. On my turn, I blew the ship up with a Point Blank Strike.
I was stopped multiple times by Legacy and An Issue of Trust, and with Nick using Manheim, Trial Never Ended and McCoy repeatedly, progress was very slow. Nick fought to the last and sent my gomtuu'd Voyager Where No One Has Gone Before, but my spare crew aboard the Delta Flyer (which was busy blowing up the Enterprise after it had been hit by Quantum Filament and Gomtuu) came back from the alpha quadrant to finish the job. |

Round 4 | | Matt Kirk | FL (-80) |
vs Matt: horrible, horrible dilemma draws on my part! Lackey-shuffling gave me no space dilemmas at all (rather unexpected when you play Tillman pile with lots of damage dilemmas) when Matt attempted with 8. All I could play was Well-Prep Defenses, but I forgot about Chang's Diplomacy-gaining ability so Matt walked right through.
Matt played a single stopper at my Caretaker's Array, and managed to 1-in-5 pick my Chakotay to be stopped. Matt had a massive personnel advantage and with no UD or PA to be found, my dilemma support was weak, and even though I hit him with a Whisper, he still had enough quality personnel to get the a crew of five past the Hard Time/Sylvia I played as my last stand. At least I completed Caretaker's before this was over.
Very well played, Matt! |

Round 5 | | Michael Van Breemen | FW (-90) |
vs Michael: MVB destroyed my first-turn Energize with Dukat before I could use it; I also was dumb enough to ditch the wrong personnel to dl Voyager and ended up having to play Voyager with only one (cheap) personnel for free, as all the other cards were non-Voyager goons. On my first attempt with six, I was stopped by Chula: The Precipice followed by Breached, but I completed on my second attempt with 8, and even ran through Reestablish Neural Cooperative on my first attempt on the same turn (thanks to Gav generating a needed skill).
Michael then attempted himself, but I was lucky and drew a Quantum Filament/Hard Time against his team of six. Michael stopped me at my third mission for two turns with various dilemmas, but in the end I got the job done. |

Round 6 | | Auwerd Bijker | FW (-75) |
vs Auwerd: got stopped at Caretaker's by Moral Choice (?) into Gomtuu, then switched to my planet mission and completed it on the first attempt.
I hit Auwerd in space with Psychokinetic Control/Quantum Filament/Gomtuu, then flew over and blew up his ship with seven people aboard. I attempted Caretaker's again, but was stopped by Caretaker's Guests/Clown: Go Away/The Seen and the Unseen, which brought me down to 35 points, meaning I had to complete three missions (unless Auwerd played Dukat again, who I named for Seek Savior). I switched to Seek Savior, where I ran into WNOHGB.
Luckily, I was able to stop Auwerd again in space with a Molecular Reversion Field, which he repaired; later, I hit him with another Quantum Filament. After that, he switched to a planet, where I capture two people with Sylvia and put a second damage marker (Greater Needs) on his Groumall. I could have blown up the ship, but with 15 personnel I had enough personnel two complete both Seek Saviour and Instruct Advanced Drone. Auwerd scored 25 points from dilemmas and some capture tricks to my 115. |

Round 7 | | William Hoskin | FW (-100) |
vs Will: good start, Energize and Surprise Party early, though Energize fell victim to Will's Tacking into the Wind soon. I completed Caretaker's Array on my first attempt with 5 after using Chakotay to prevent a stop. Will played a good mixture of high and lower cost Romulans, many of them with gold stars so I made a mental note of not trying to use Rogue Borg Ship. He attempted with seven in space, I used Hindrance to make it 10/10, and managed to pull off a combo that left both Quantum Filament and Gomtuu Shockwave on his ship. On my turn, I played a Disable Sensors, flew over and finished the job, blowing up a Bird or Prey with Spock, Donatra, B'etor and others aboard.
While Will was rebuilding, I worked on my planet missions, and made steady progress even though I had some casualties due to Sabotaged Transporters. In the end, I was able to finish my last mission before Will could get the Prometheus in play and come over to blow up my damaged Voyager. |
