DominionIn Relig Odhráin
Introduction
Going into the tournament as the highest-ranked of 15-16 players, I had no illusions of getting one of the supposedly stronger affiliations, so I told OKCoyote to just assign one of the remaining HQs (except Terok Nor, I didn't want to use that when I can't use Yelsar, as per the rules) at random to me. I got Dominion, which to my shame I had only played once in a sanctioned tournament in the CC era. I decided against infiltration and went with a Subek'somac deck that does two space missions, much like the deck Nick Yankovec plays. I took a page from his book and added Elude Federation Forces instead of Recruit Ally, and also went for the Unfair Comparison pile.

Round 1TNGChristopher CoyleFW (+35)
Chris lived in Germany for some time and came to our tournaments in Weiden, so it was great to catch up with him. He got TNG and played the Bear Enterprise and many of the usual suspects. I've built a similar deck for my wife and rework it all the time, so I'm familiar with almost everything it does. Chris went for Investigate Maquis Activity with nine. He had no Mot out yet, so I got to hit him with the dream combo of Necessary Execution into Assassination Attempt, killing Beverly, McCoy, Lian T'su and Rachel Garrett. This meant he had no Diplomacy left in play for the moment. Myself, I went for the risky attempt with 6 at Penetrate Enemy Lines, and was completely taken by Surprise by an ACE kill pile. I survived the attempt with only one loss, though, because Toe to Toe worked out in my favour. Chris had to draw some cards, then flew back home to regroup. I Crom-downloaded Gelnon, who in turn downloaded and reported the Founder Bodyguard to my ship. I attempted again with six again, and ran into more kill dilemmas, one of which consumed an ACE. The Founder Bodyguard was clutch here, and made up for four kills with three Jem'Hadar reported right into the mission attempt. I completed, felt lucky and flew on to my next space where I attempted with five. I got stopped, no kills, thankfully. Chris played more cheap guys and went to IMA. My Pitching In was full price, which I didn't expect, so the Sylvia that followed was overcosted and Chris completed. I attempted EFF again with the same five guys, and somehow managed to get through. As I had Ent-J out, I went to The Siege of AR-558 and attempted with 5. People died, but as I had already played more mission skills to my HQ that turn, I wasn't worried about Dreamer and just hoped to put one or two under. Chris then went to Space, and put some under, then on my turn I played a Warship, flew home, flew back, attempted, and got stopped/killed again. Dangerously low on mission skills now. Chris then double-attempted his space, and completed it, but had to go to Avert Danger next, where I stopped him with Inequitable Exchange, then had to hold back the next team with two more dilemmas. From there I was able to complete my short-stacked planet for the win. Very good game, well-played by Chris! FW, 100-65.

Round 2KlingonTjark OttFW (+100)
Tjark got the Klingons, and of course went with Provoke Interstellar Incident. I had a PA in my opening hand and five events in my core quickly, but several duplicate cards in my hand (2x Odo Founder, 2x Ixtana'rax, 3x Crom! - I guess that's why I stocked Mental Discipline). Tjark attempted with 7, including Gowron and Riker, but I managed to hit him with Tsiolkovsky (killing Gowron, Bregath, Kahmis) into Where No One Has Gone Before, and did my little happy dance. My first attempt was stopped by Coolant Leak / Bitter Medicine - nice tracking there by Tjark. Tjark got his ship back, I attemtped again after a Gelnon-report of the Bodyguard. I lost 5-cost Odo to Inequitable Exchange, but completed after a PDuty only stopped one more guy. I flew on to Penetrate Enemy Lines, where Healing Hand/Temptation/Guess Who's stopped me. Tjark played more guys, attempted PII again, and I got off Ominous Presence/Unfair Comparison/another Where No One Has Gone Before. Now that doesn't happen too often. On my turn, I completed PEL after I had no Transporters to stop for Ingenious Jury-Rig, so the remaining Show Trial didn't stop enough and Polywater was overcosted. I flew home, beamed to the Jem'hadar Warship, and attempted The Siege with 9, and was stopped with three under (An Issue + Oracle's Punishment). Tjark came back from his second trip, and now had the full set of past Klingon goodness in play, but had to wait for the next turn to unleash them. He didn't get one, though, as I reported two more guys, then double-attempted with 9 (got stopped by Rogue Borg Ambush) and 5. Tjark couldn't top-deck, and my random Jemmies + Luaran completed thanks to the Ent-J. FW, 100-0.

Round 3BajoranMichael Van BreemenFW (+55)View opponent's Report
MVB was using Resistance Opaka and Symbol of Devotion to generate points for AWC, then spam Bajorans. I didn't see any cheater interrupts, but I could not afford to simply assume they weren't there, so gave Michael Ominous Presence / Unfair Comparison / Whisper / Sylvia on his first attempt, which set him back two turns. Myself, I walked right through PEL when Legacy whiffed, but got stopped twice by the remaining two copies at Elude Fed Forces, and once more by Healing Hand / Gomtuu (I completely forgot that I had sacrificed my only Alpha Jemmie in play to Our Death an AWC and was fully convinced I would simply pass the Gomtuu using Strength). Michael completed the short-stacked IMA with 4, then flew on to attempt Amnesty Talks with 9. Slightly Overbooked / WNOHGB sent him on a trip, though. On my turn, I brought in reinforcements with the Warship, including Odo, so when MVB tried Healing Hand into Gomtuu again, I had exactly 33 Integrity to show. I then moved my 6 unstopped people to the Siege and attempted. Michael only had Pitching In to play, so I gave him 10 points with Odo and completed right away. FW, 100-45.

Round 4DS9-EarthAndrewFW (+100)
Andrew started dropping a bunch of weenies on his first turn, but thankfully he played more expensive people on his later turns, too. I had a Crom in my opening hand and got some good people out, and attempted when I had six. I got stopped by Dark Page (1 STR short). Andrew's first attempt failed against Unfair Comparison > WNOHGB. My next attempt was stopped cold by Outclassed, then Andrew iced my Odo with Holding Cell. Great play. Andrew's next attempt was stopped by Slightly Overbooked, the one after by In Development, and yet another one by Pitching In > Oracle's Punishment. Meanwhile, I had played a second ship, micro-teamed my way through Penetrate Enemy Lines, and completed Elude Federation Forces on my first try when good old Mental Discipline gave Crom an extra helping of Diplomacy to get through Gomtuu Shock Wave. The following turn, my first attempt at Siege was stopped by Issue of Trust and Hard Time. Eventually I had 13 people and Enterprise-J in play and formed crews of 8 and 5 (1 under). Andrew played Timescape, followed by Unfair Terms and Guess Who's Coming. I excluded Odo Founder from the UT selection with Remata'klan, then two people were killed by UT; the awesomeness that is the Founder Bodyguard brought in another Jemmie, then Ent-J allowed me to stop a boosted Turan'ekan to Guess Who's Coming, and the rest of team completed for the win. FW, 100-0.

Closing Thoughts
Dominion is still not my favourite affilition to play, but the Subek'somac is a nice tool. I'd still give more credit to the dilemma pile than to the draw deck, because I feel that a standard attrition pile does not provide enough stalling power to this deck as is necessary. Also, I had good matchups here, as I didn't have an answer to event-heavy decks like Council, Borg, big Voyager, and Maquis would have eaten my guys for breakfast.
