Romulan Borg Ambush |
Introduction |
This card pool was from before I started playing, so not really any experience to take as a starting point. I went with a mission selection around Crosis/Lore and Romulan bonus points. |
|
Round 1 | | Amber Van Breemen | FL (-55) |
Amber had the slightly better start and attempted with lots of high cunning personnel. I stopped her, but had to put too many under, so she took the lead next turn. I stopped her with a lone CIP at her second mission, but had to discard the single AWC I had found so far to do that. When I started attempting, I got through my first mission in one go, but was stopped at my second. After she had auto-completed the second planet and went to space, I had to play risky and gambled, giving her nothing, but she had drawn into another copy of Discreet Inquiry to take the win. |

Round 2 | | J | FW (+85) |
Mirror match! J had some cards I forgot about, like Sensing a Trap to make me pay dearly for my At What Costs. The game really turned in my favour when I got the god pulls of his only two non-aligned people with random kills from BRD (?) and Rogue Borg Ambush, which left J's Merc Raider destaffed. Slowly but steadily I chipped away at my missions and brought the game home. Could have been a lot closer. |

Round 3 | | Anastasia Kalashnikova | FW (+70) |
Klingons! By turn 3, Alexey had the entire Blood Oath gang in play, together with Gowron and some more. His attempt at RP ended with two kills (BRD/RBA), the next with SI (Riker came in) into a bouncing Captain's Holiday. He eventually completed but lost his hand of 8 cards to a four-card combo ending in Dreamer and Counterinsurgency. My deck worked like it was supposed to, GUYS set up (and hitting!) on turn 2, P+P on turn 3, so I had enough points to burn two AWCs. The first planet fell on the first attempt, second planet soon after. In space, one team was hit with Gomtuu, the second with PDuty and Skeleton Crew on top. On the following turn, the first team only had 1 Leader/Off to walk through a second PDuty and completed for the win. |

Round 4 | | Michael Van Breemen | FW (+45)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Got rid of all three Rikers with Secret IDs and Dreamer, and just prayed that my Counterinsurgency Programs would hit (I feared Michael would eventually SI in Jadzia and use Rite of Emergence to cheat through). Michael stopped me cold with Harsh Conditions + walls (another card I didn't remember), but as he didn't draw into a Gomtuu on my last mission attempt and could only give me Telepathic Deception after some filters, I stole the win. |
There's two skills missing from my deck - Astrometrics and Geology which meant his Counterinsurgency Programs was always going to work. I lost two Rikers to Secret Identity and a third to a bad Dreamer (taking out all three Promises as well.) Still, I almost won if I had drawn one of the two remaining Gomtuu's in my pile, especially if I had gotten a Secret Identity to go along with it as that would've taken out his last Medical. |

Closing Thoughts |
Not winning the tournament on SoS is something I can totally live with considering I finally got the At Least He Didn't Beat ME achievement. |
