CarDS9ians |
Introduction |
I wanted to use some of the new cards so I built a DS9 deck but then I realized I wanted to try something goofy so I added Cardassia, a bunch of TN Cardassians, and 3 copies of Tenuous Alliance. Having Mila as my only interrupt prevention and Dukat as my only event removal turns out to have been a bad idea. Also, not having any deck support for Legacy when it pretty much keys off of it is also not good. In a redo, I'd probably add a couple Manheim Effects and maybe a Grav-Trap and a couple ETU's. |

Round 1 | | Pat Bortz | FL (-75) |
As soon as I had seen Pat was going to be at the tournament, I asked if I should add Rescue Prisoners to my deck. He just laughed. I started out by getting 4 species out for School fairly quickly, around turn 3 for the first one. I played all 3 of them by turn 5. However, I could not get a ship for anything. Pat got out early on me and due to some dilemma play (tossed a Legacy, he revealed 1 skill and i flipped 1 skill and the other 2 copies of Legacy) and not having Mila out (BOT tagged the 2nd Legacy), Pat jumped out to a 2 mission lead really quick. Since I randomly had added Li Nalas and a Just Like Old Times, I made a tactical error of going to attack him when I did get a ship instead of trying missions. I won my attack for 15 points but couldnt recover from handing him two missions early and he completed for the win.
Highlight of the game - Attempting with 14 in space as a last ditch effort and losing every single one of them. |

Round 2 | | Bye | BY (0) |
This was lunch. I see why the San Diego group plays in an Arby's. Having decent food there is very convenient. |

Round 3 | | Brian Sykes | FL (-45)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
I was always just a step behind this game. I couldnt draw a Legacy at his first attempt and he got thru fairly easily (first attempt, I think). After that I started drawing Legacy and hard stopped him 2 straight turns. I managed to get thru Survey New World after a brutal attempt that involved getting an entire away team removed (5 from dilemmas, the last from the mission fail). I started working on Kressari but Brian was just a little bit faster on the missions. |
Josh was one of the other players who decided he liked Promenade School for a deck. We get started and I am able to solve Investigate Maquis Activity early, which would turn out to be key, as on my first attempt at Investigate Destruction he plays this dilemma called 'Legacy' that apparently ruins my day since I'm playing a Tragic Turn pile. That's what I get for being out of the loop for 6 months. I spend another turn running into Legacy, while Josh attempts Survey New World with 6. A Tragic Turn/Clown combo later 5 people are dead and the 6th gets sucked under the planet. This buys me some time, which I need, and on my next turn I draw into Krim and another of my Promenade Schools, allowing me to kick Josh's Legacies in the nuts and actually have a chance at solving missions. I attempt Investigte Destruction and get stopped by An Issue of Trust/Stolen Computer Core (!) Combo (Issue of Trust stopped Luther Sloan). Meanwhile Josh has rebuilt and solves Survey New World after I mistrack on a skill, causing the Clown to whiff. He then proceeds with working on Eliminate Harvesters, only to end up with no Medical personnel. I finish Investigate Destruction on my next turn and proceed to get stopped at Host Metaphasic. Josh spends his next turn playing Telle and Damar and decides to go directly to Space at Kressari, where Tragic Turn takes care of all of his officers, but buries the mission in the process. On my turn I play the Bellerophon (with no Dip person in hand) and bring all of my people to Host Metaphasic, where I proceed to double team the mission for the win. Josh showed me that on his next turn he would have been able to solve Kressari and play Ruling Council (he commanded Mouth of the Wormhole!) for the win, but the final score ended up being 100-55. Good Game. |

Round 4 | | Samuel Truax | FW (+50) |
Sam broke out the old-school Wondertwins for the event. Its nice when 2 personnel have all the skills and half the attribute requirement for all you missions. Sam tagged Pegasus Search for 50 when I for some reason thought a dilemma requiring Intelligence would stop Romulans (not sure why I thought that). After that, Legacy became an auto-stop whenever I drew it, giving me time to solve missions and get the win. |
