MaquisTyler's Legendary Civilization
Introduction
I wanted to surprise the other players at the Koblenz Regional, so I decided to play Tyler's personnel denial Maquis. Even if I had never played the deck in a tournament before I have a lot experience in losing against it and hopped that that would be enough. It turned out it was, even if more than a little luck was involved. The surprised worked also very well! Three players told me that they expected me to play Borg and none was expecting Maquis or something interactive!

Round 1Ferengisascha kieferMW (+1)
Sascha played Ferengi Genis planet. The good news in the this game was an early Defiant on my side of the table. The bad news was two card drawing Rules on Sascha's side so he could reduce the effect the Defiant had on him. Even with me trying to prevent his personnel plays, Sascha was able to solve two missions before I could solve one, so he only needed to finish Genesis Planet. The first turning point of this game came when I could complete Aid Legendary Civilization after using two Stalling for Times to get rid of his high cost personnel (Gint and Julina Bashir) thus reducing his available personnel. The second one came one turn later when I drew into Biogenetic Weapon and could block Genesis planet. Sascha was able to clean his core from events by attempting his forth mission and using Navaar (and Rule #76) so he could use Brunt to destroy Biogenetic Weapon, but the one turn he lost doing so was enough to prevent him from solving Genesis Planet before time was called. Since I could complete Elude Federation Forces I had Planet and Space and won the game Modified with less points than Sascha. Great game! MW 75 - 85

Round 2KlingonMarco PuelschFW (+100)
Marco played a Klingon solver and thus the one deck I was afraid of the most. Being able to play high cost personnel at a low cost makes my life very hard. Luckily I was able to prevent some personnel and even could attempt Aid Legendary Civilization before Marco started to attempt. That was the point when Marco's bad luck showed up first: A team of 8 (including 3 or 4 Federation personnel) faced Moral Choice and Marco did not drew one Fed guy! I could thus complete the Mission at first attempt, dodging The Dreamer and the Dream and reduce Marco's personnel to three. He never recovered from this. I was able to play the Defiant (which would have been discarded by the Dreamer) and could deny him a lot of personnel using the Maquis tricks. The fact that the Valjean seem to hit literally every personnel he could use to solve his first mission did not help either. After a late game All Out War Marco ended his game with three personnel in play and a total of three or four mission attempts. FW 100 - 0

Round 3VoyagerTjark OttFW (+100)
Tjark was playing his Voyager 40 points deck. I have played against this deck a few time already and thus knew that he was going to draw a tons of cards using B'Elanna Torres (Chief Engineer) and Seven of Nine. But since both of them cost two I was rather optimistic I could Cascade Virus them. Tjark had other plans and played B'Elanna on turn two before I could draw into a Cascade Virus. On the plus side I had the Defiant ready on Turn 3 and thus could compensate some of his card draws. Seven and one or two other personnels were prevented either by Cascade Virus and Alarming Rumors. On my first attempt at Aid Legendary Civilization I again faced Moral Choice with a team with 3 or 4 Fed guys and as in the previous game Tjark did not draw one of them... Once this was done, Tjark had one personnel in play. The usual Maquis tricks keep his personnel count low during the rest of the game. Some bad luck with dilemmas (playing Presonnel Duty against a team containing only one Leadership/Officer and playing An Issue of Trust against a team with one Treachery/Honor) did not help Tjark either and thus the game was over before he could complete a mission. FW 100 - 0

Round 4KlingonSvenja WeldenFW (+70)
Svenja, as usual, was piloting a Klingon deck. Another Klingon deck... Things started as horrible as I expected: Svenja started attempting very early and even if I was able to remove three personnel (Hard Time, Caretaker's Guests, You Vant to Go Back) I could not prevent here from solving. On her second mission (with seven personnel, including Chang and some other Treachery personnel) I drew into another Caretaker's Guests and Gomtuu, thus forcing her to spend nearly one turn of counters on a second ship. Meanwhile I could solve Aid Legendary Civilization (even if Moral Choice stopped three!), reducing her personnel to two. Thanks to the Maquis tricks (including a Cascade Virus saved especially for Kruge) she was not able to attempt another mission before I could complete my final two mission. FW 100 - 30

Round 5BorgFlorian OttMW (+75)
When Tyler build this deck it was at least partially constructed as weapon against Borg. At least in our games it was always successful and my Borg never cam even close to winning against this deck. Since Florian was plaing Borg, now was the time to figure out if this was due to the Maquis or due to my lack of playing skills... I had some problems getting personnel into play, but the ones I got where enough to annoy Florian: Two copies M'vil destroyed one copy of Quintessence, Dukat removed all the nice personnel that the remaining copy of Quintessence discarded (overall two Queens, two Locutus, two Datas...), and in turn four there even was a staffed Defiant. Nevertheless it took me while to get the 3 Fed Maquis necessary for Stalling for Time, and the 6 Maquis needed for Alarming Rumors. When I was finally able to play Alarming Rumors it was not one turn to early since Florian wanted to play a Queen and one turn later a Locutus. Needless to say both were prevented. He thus started attempting with only drones (7 or 8 in total) and but was stopped multiple time (including two stops by Gomtuu). The combined efforts of Aid Legendary Civilization and Stalling for Time (naming a drone that he played three copied of) removed nearly all his personnel and it took him till his final turn of the game (when time was called) before he could start another attempt that got stopped by (I think) Captain's Guest. I on the other hand finished a second mission but was stopped two times at the third one during the last turn of the game. MW 75 - 0
