Rule THAT Council !! [v3] |
Introduction |
This is my third attempt at building a deck to win the "Strange Bedfellows" achievement. Each version has seen me reduce the deck size, and change dilemma piles. Gorgan/Tactical didn't work in version 1. Legacy worked in version 2, but the errata neutered it. In this version, I tried a generic dilemma pile that should be able to stand by itself. As for the deck, its pretty simple. It is a 2 mission win deck, that shouldn't need to use Ruling Council for points. That means you can use them for unstopping. Turns out, I usually used them for points. |

Round 1 | | Doug Hughes | FL (-30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
After a few turns, I thought I was set up to begin attempting missions. Where No One Has Gone Before on my first attempt put paid to that thought. It wasn't too bad though, because Doug was struggling for Medical (required by two of his missions), and I was able to hold him off at both missions for a couple of turns. I thought I had the upper hand when I completed Kressari Rendezvous for 65 points. Turns out Doug's deck was just getting started. He was spending his turn drawing 6 or 7 cards and then attempting with the 10-14 personnel he had in play. My dilemma pile just couldn't cope with the huge numbers and all of his unstopping. He breezed through two missions quickly, and I started to panic. On my next turn, I attempted Survey New World. Damar was killed by a dilemma. Dukat hit Hard Time and I failed the attempt. Trying to outsmart Doug, I then used Weyoun's order and put him under my deck. That was a bonehead move - he was my last command icon I needed to staff my ship. Didn't matter too much though. Doug rolled through my dilemmas on his next turn and won the game. FL 70-100 |
Highlights = James de-staffing himself in a desperate attempt to spangle my chances...
Hilarious.

Round 2 | | Stuart Marsh | FW (+100) |
Stuart was playing an Alternate Universe deck. Let me start off by saying that when all of your personnel have the AU icon, Slar (Gorn Slave Master) is a beast. Thankfully, I didn't see much of him, as I was able to stop Stuart's other personnel pretty easily. My deck worked like a dream. After completing Kressari Rendezvous quickly, I took the opportunity to retrieve two copies of Ruling Council with Feast on the Dying and used them to make multiple attempts at Survey New World, and won the game. FW 100-0

Round 3 | | Nicholas Yankovec | FW (+65) |
I was expecting a tough game against Nick's TOS deck. From his grunts and groans early on, I'm guessing he didn't have the best of shuffles. I, on the other hand, faired better. I went off half-cocked again though, and Nick was able to stop my first attempt with no overcome dilemmas. Side note: whose stupid idea was it to include a 2nd headquarters just for an achievement? The Dal'Rok really hurt. Still, my copies of Moral Choice worked to slow him down, as did the occasional kill and/or Hard Time. By the time I was working on my second mission, Nick had moved onto his. My revenge was sweet, when I stopped his first attempt with no overcome dilemmas. That bought me time, and I completed my mision for the win. FW 100-35 |
