Introduction |
The day before the tournament, I still hadn't decided what to play, so I looked to the Internet for inspiration. 17 different porn sites couldn't inspire me though, so I resorted to looking through the Deck Designs forum instead. And so the Groumall deck was born. I made a few changes (as discussed in the topic), and used a dilemma pile I had already built because I was too lazy to get more cards out. All in all, it worked out quite well. |

Round 1 | | Stuart Marsh | FW (+70) |
Stuart was playing a Romulan pursuit deck. Over the first few turns, he staffed the Scimitar and left it sitting at one of my space missions. Being the savvy player that I am, I went to my other space mission - forgetting about Cloak and Dagger (which was recently released.) I only remembered it when he tried to play it. Fortunately, Mila sacrificed herself to save the day. I had been lucky in that the first ship I drew into was the Prakesh (Shields 12 in an engagement I didn't start), so Stuart couldn't battle me like he wanted, he instead just began building up personnel to attempt missions with. When I eventually played my second ship - with shields 7, Stuart spent a few turns harassing me. I kept cool though, and just powered through my missions, completing two in a turn for the win.

Round 2 | | William Hoskin | FW (+95)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Will was playing a Ferengi deck. My opening hand featured Broca and the Aldara, so I hoped to score 5 points to power the Aldara's ability, to help out with my first mission. Unfortunately, Will played the 5-points-scoring Brunt early on and ruined my combo. Git. I knew Will was using the Gorgan/Rule #141 combo (because I had to take the three copies of Rule #141 out of my Ferengi deck so that Will could use them.) Unfortunately, I couldn't draw into any copies of The Central Command, so I just had to work my way through them. Once I did, life became easier and my mission attempts went much smoother.

Round 3 | | Nicholas Yankovec | FW (+20)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Nick was playing Bajoran Resistance, and having overheard his earlier comments at the table next to me, I knew the deck wasn't working well for him. It seemed to work well enough in this game though. I destroyed an early Just Like Old Times, but Nick just downloaded another. He then hit me with Left Behind snagging some random pleb and Garak (who could normally gain the skills to overcome it, except this time he couldn't use his skills. Which idiot designed that dilemma?) Anyhow, Nick came to battle my guys and took the early lead before beginning to attempt missions for himself. I thought I had a bad draw at his first space attempt, but my combo ending in Gomtuu Shock Wave hit because Nick's team only had 1 Diplomacy and no way to gain skills. I also snagged an Insurrection on the mission (Kressari Rendezvous) to make things more difficult for him. I also used Ensnared to capture Odo so further hinder him. Then, I top-decked a Polywater Intoxication when he attempted a mission with 4 personnel. My luck was in, this game. Then it turned, and I just had so much trouble lowering his team's Strength so that he couldn't complete his missions. He got through two quickly. On the other side of the table, I was getting there too. I had to use two teams, Telle and The Central Command to get through my final mission just before time was called.

Cardassian Groumal deck; luckily enough his Evek hit 3 Events, so much lolz about that, and I did manage to get 2 missions before losing. Stupid Central Command... |
