TOSTOS Dilemma Retrieval [v1]
Introduction
Nick had been moaning about Damaged Archer, so I made an effort to put him away and build a new deck. My creation: a TOS solver with dilemma retrieval using McCoy, Shran and Parallel Course. Jared Hoffman had played something similar against me at Worlds 2011, and I had wanted to build this deck since losing to it back in August.

Round 1FerengiNicholas YankovecFW (+100)View opponent's Report
Nick was playing a Ferengi/Thief deck. It really couldn't cope with Tsiolkovsky Infection. I managed to play McCoy twice in this game, so Nick's team had to face it three times. Each time it killed three personnel. Once it destaffed his Kumari (only needing one command icon to staff!).

Given how well my dilemma pile was working, I was surprised to see my mission attempts struggle. Nick held me off for a long time with dilemmas designed to rig the top card of my deck for his Pickpocket. With just 23 seconds remaining in the game, Nick ended his turn and allowed me to complete my second mission for the win.

Round 2KlingonDS9-EarthWilliam HoskinFW (+65)View opponent's Report
Will was playing a Klingon/Earth(DS9) deck in an attempt to win the Strange Bedfellows achievement. We'd played a few practice games the night before, and he was putting his inside knowledge of my deck to use from the start. Almost every personnel he played had Biology or Medical (it seemed), and I was very worried that my Tsiolkovsky Infections wouldn't work. Fortunately, I was able to play enough dilemmas each attempt to stop Will, and then use Shan and/or McCoy to take some dilemmas back from his missions.

Will was playing a Tactical Disadvantage / Gorgan dilemma pile, and I couldn't do much against them. At my space mission, I ran into three Tacticals on three consecutive attempts. I just took the kill each time (and used Shran when he was stopped). Once Will had run out of Tacticals, I completed my space mission, before being stopped by a Gorgan at my planed mission. Fortunately, I only had to face one of them before completing the mission for the win.

Round 3TNGStuart MarshMW (+15)
Stuart was playing a Cadet/Battle Bridge TNG deck designed to destroy his opponent's ship with a surprise attack from the Prometheus. It worked against Will, and it worked against me. I had wondered why he hadn't played an At What Cost? after playing Guinan (especially as he downloaded one earlier). It turns out, he was waiting for me to attempt my space mission. He got one damage dilemma one my ship, and then played At What Cost?, dropped the Prometheus and an engagement event. I hadn't expected that, and lost a ship with nine personnel. It took me forever to catch back up as I was playing events like crazy to support my dilemma pile...

Once I was back to square one, Stuart began his mission attempts. He was using Firestorm to reduce my events in play and consequently my 8-cost dilemmas weren't as cheap as they could have been. I managed to stop a few attempts, and killed/captured a few personnel. It turns out that I managed to kill/capture enough Archaeology personnel to leave Stuart with just one in play and none in his deck. This happy accident occurred as he was attempting Historical Research (his third mission) and bought me enough time to win the game.

Time was called and I had one final turn. Stuart was winning 75-50, and I had no dilemmas under either of my Planet missions. I gambled, and attempted the easier of the two (my own copy of Historical Research) knowing that 'd get a modified win if I completed it. It turns out that Stuart's dilemmas couldn't stop me, and I completed the mission with relative ease. I'd have got the full win if I'd gone to the harder mission. Nuts.
