Resist the Old Times [v2] |
Introduction |
After my success at the first tournament, things came crashing down to earth during this tournament. I'd rebuilt my Bajoran Resistance deck, following its abject failure a few months ago. |

Round 1 | | Bye | BY (0) |
The randomising machine that is Danny gave me the bye for this round. I offered to let him re-pick but he declined. Given my performance later on, I should probably be grateful. |

Round 2 | | Stuart Marsh | FL (-25) |
Stuart was playing a Dominion two-mission win deck using the Dominion's battle for 10 points cards. After an engagement against my empty ship, he'd use Lamat'Ukan to unstop everyone and go attempt a mission. At Stuart's first mission I had a brain fart and thought he had more Honor/Treachery personnel in play than he actually did. I tried An Issue of Trust followed by Gomtuu Shock Wave. Sadly for me, he only had one Honor/Treachery personnel in play and had just enough Integrity to overcome the damage dilemma to complete the mission on his first attempt. With hindsight, a combo as simple as Hard Time/Gomtuu Shock Wave would have been enough to stop him. As it was, he was half-way to victory before I could blink (well, it felt like that.) I soldiered on and managed to complete two missions, but I couldn't hold him forever. As it was, Stuart completed his second mission and then flew over to battle me for the final 10 points he needed to win. If I was lucky, and with a fair head wind, I may have won on the following turn.

Round 3 | | Daniel Giddings | FL (-35) |
Danny was playing mild capture, and was aiming to score sufficient points from Prison Compound for a two-mission win. Unfortunately for him, I hit one of his early attempts with Insurrection (at Kressari Rendezvous), Dreamer and then Gomtuu Shock Wave. He had nine cards in hand, two of which were Prison Compound, so he was forced into attempting three missions to win the game. This didn't really matter though, because Danny had managed to strand my only ship. I'd played a Bridge Officer's Test against his combo of Inequitable Exchange and then Broken Captive, and he picked Orta to die. It turned out he was my only command icon (news flash: Shakaar Edon doesn't have a command icon), and my ship was stranded. Whoops. There go four turns while I find another ship. When I did eventually play my second ship, I had enough personnel to make double attempts. Thanks to Furel, who unstopped two personnel so they could reattempt with a new team, I was able to complete my second mission. I couldn't catch Danny up though. Paenol bought me a turn, preventing The Central Command, but that wasn't enough. His dirty Cardassians took the victory over my righteous Bajorans.

Closing Thoughts |
More abject failure. The lesson to be learned from all this - Bajoran Resistance sucks. At least how I play them. |
