DS9Non-AlignedSpecies-licious [v1.1]
Introduction
I went 2-1 with my non-aligned all-different-species deck at the last tournament, so I figured I would tweak it a little and try again. I replaced the two 40+ point missions I never planned to attempt with Historical Research and Transport Crash Survivors. Consequently, I removed Spatial Interphase from my (Unfair Comparison) dilemma pile and replaced it with Moment of Doubt and The Charismatic Mister Kor. In the draw deck, I added two copies of Stir Crazy and cut one USS Enterprise-J.

Round 1TNGStuart MarshFW (+100)
Stuart was playing a TNG Temporal themed deck, with lots of Temporal events and the 8-cost dilemmas in his dilemma pile. I had an almost perfect opening hand: Morn (potentially giving me a free card draw each turn), Surprise Party (giving me an extra counter to spend each turn) and Energize (letting me play personnel cheaper for three turns). In contrast, Stuart didn't seem to have the best shuffle. He was drawing a lot of cards, and playing events, but not really playing many personnel. He played Ohhhh! Nothing Happened!, Keeping Track of You (copying the game text on Ohhhh! Nothing Happened!) and then The Edge of Forever to pop one of them. Sadly he named Gomtuu Shock Wave, and I didn't have any in my dilemma pile to remove.

Even though I intended to play lots of events too, I hadn't drawn into many; so I was quite happy to play Desperate Sacrifice and blow up most of Stuarts events. This included Parting Thought on my space mission. With that gone, I went out to attempt. Stuart tried playing a combo including Intimidation (which could only stop two against my all-different-species deck), so I was able to complete the mission that turn. Emck aboard his ship and two copies of Mission Accomplished mean I earned 50 points from that.

Stuart had seven personnel in play by this point and made his own attempts at Collapse Anti-Time Anomaly. I one-stopped him for a couple of turns though. That gave me the time to attempt my own second mission. I was stopped on my first try, but completed it for the win on the next turn.

Round 2CardassianDaniel GiddingsMW (+5)
Danny was playing a Cardassian deck that was part capture, part solver. He managed to play Evek pretty early on, but I didn't reveal any personnel in the top 3 cards of my deck (yay!). Later on, after I'd played two copies of Mission accomplished, I made the mistake of leaving my headquarters with Emck. I was stopped at my space mission, and then Danny played Ensnared to capture him. I had Skalaar in play, but was too eager to use him to save Emck. I flew directly to one of Danny's missions and rescued Emck, only to be stranded there as I didn't have enough range to fly home afterwards. That meant Danny could play a second copy of Ensnared and capture Skalaar. I really should have played a second ship, waited a turn to fill my hand and then I could have rescued Emck without leaving anyone vulnerable to being Ensnared. Lesson learned.

I'd managed to send Danny's ship on a trip to the edge of the universe, but I was wary of Danny unstopping his personnel with The Central Command, so I was playing slightly more dilemmas than I needed to. I managed to tease two of them into being used, but the second earnt him his first mission. I completed my first mission for 50 points around that time so the score was 50-35 to me. At my planet mission I had Emck re-captured, and then I ran into The Seen and the Unseen (who plays that?), and the score became 45-40 to me. When time was called during the next turn, I threw everything I had at Danny's attempt and managed to stop him (it turns out he didn't have his third copy of The Central Command in hand.) On my final turn, I decided to not attempt and take the modified win rather than risk running into The Seen and the Unseen again (which would have given the game to Danny 45-40).

MW 45-40

Round 3DominionNicholas YankovecFW (+35)
Nick was playing his Dominion strength deck. Much like Stuart he seemed to have a bad shuffle. Each of his card draws was meet with groans and exclamations. This gave me the time to start working on my missions. We were both playing Unfair Comparison dilemma piles, and I knew that Nick's pile usually beat mine. However, in this game he played it twice, and my dilemmas were more expensive on both occasions. Each time, leaving me with the skills to overcome the dilemmas following it and complete the mission. My dilemma plays weren't the best, but Nick's bad draw meant he only made it through two missions before I took the win.

Closing Thoughts
This was my first tournament win since, back in October, I vowed not to shave until I won a tournament. Thanks goodness. With my beard, I was beginning to look a lot like Will.

P.S. If anyone wants to play this deck, I suggest adding USS Enterprise-J back into the deck. There were times when I could have used the extra attributes today.
