William Hoskin (Gumbo) Tournament Report - 2E 2013-06-02 - 02:30 PM Klingon all stars Introduction I was looking at Achievements and decided to go for the command star achievement. looking through some of my past deck I noticed that there was only a few staffing icons in my Klingon deck. I removed them shored up some skills and threw together a dilemma pile with 1 dilemma from each of the last few sets and see what I got. (this would help me judge my level of personnel tracking for in future) Round 1 Nicholas Yankovec FL (-30) Paired against Nick First, I had won the first tournament and the Tribbles Regional so was buzzing but Nick hit me down, back to reality. A fairly close game but in the end my people were a little too expensive and Nicks Jem'hadar were a little too experienced for me. Round 2 Stuart Marsh FW (+60) Stuart was playing a DS9 deck that never really got going. playing high cost people, walk the line (with some weenies) and vascular pads ment I would struggle to people at mission attempts so would have to kill. Stuart then played the Sao Paulo which would prevent most of my kills. Luckily Stuart was struggling for Command stars so I went out and charged headlong into 3 missions worth of dilemmas and beat my way through to the FW. Round 3 Unjustly Banned FW (+30)View opponent's ReportView original Report James playing Borg, must ne his dissident deck. I dropped some people off and then flew home so that the New Resistance could not be played and triggered. unfortunately this ment I was only attempting with 6 so getting 2 under was a good sign the only problem was 2 people were killed. Next turn played another 2 people and attempt again. 2 more under. 2 more killed next turn managed to play 3 people and get the mission. blew the range and got the space mission well under way. James dropped the New resistance and played 8/9 people in that turn so I had to hope I could hold off the double teams. I managed to get Greater Needs to hit so he flew home to repair. I officer exchanged a past klingon for Janeway to reduce James's options in dilemm busting. I managed to get the FW before the mass ranks of Borg Dissidents could over run my dilemmas. Will was playing his Klingon all-command icon deck. He was trying to stop me abusing The New Resistance, by never leaving a ship out in the open. While it did stop me from spewing personnel out, it also slowed him down a lot. First he flew out to his planet mission, dropped six off and flew home. (I didn't draw Necessary Execution). Next turn, he replaced the personnel I killed and did the same again, giving me five to draw (I didn't draw Necessary Execution this time either). On the next turn, he attempted with six, and I drew four dilemmas. Guess what dilemma I drew? That's right, Necessary Execution. Bah humbug. Will eventually went to his space mission and let me play The New Resistance. I played a "few" personnel for free and got back into the game. Sadly, I couldn't quite take the lead. I'd had to burn my two copies of Unyielding to get through the first two missions, and had no tricks left for my third. As the saying goes, "close, but no cigar". FL: 70-100 Closing Thoughts Played with a normal dilemma pile and I think I could have won the tournament but with this pile I was amazed I won 2 games.
