Tournament Report - 2E - Rura Penthe Regional
2015-06-20 - 11:00 AM
StarfleetHot Gates [m&s] / The Great Divide [bb]
Introduction
Wanted to get a win for Starfleet this Regional season, but, alas, wasn't meant to be. At least not by me. Paired my proto-Feds with the Species 8472 shenanigans and the Stakoron missions, thanks to Expedient Opportunity. I had fun with the deck, but, little to no success. Oh well, sometimes that's the way it goes. My daughters joined me for the Trek up to Canada, to both play in the events and make a weekend getaway/excursion/mini-vacation of it. This was their first time out of the United States, and all in all, I believe they had fun. We stayed in a downtown hotel that had a pool on the roof, well, the third floor roof courtyard that is. Swam there on Sunday before checkout. Went to do some shopping at St. Vitale Place. Had a pretty good time. Now, we just have to get my wife her passport so all four of us can go together on the next trip up north.

Round 1TOSEllaNora Madolyn HayesFW (+4)
I nabbed Northwest Passage first, for 45 points (+10 off Humanity's Home, which I used to fuel a couple of my At What Cost's iirc). Ella completed Breach Barrier second, for 45 points (+5 from BB itself), meanwhile I was getting a few S8472 dilemmas in her core. She then went to work on her regional compatriot, Sha Ka Ree. And finished it before I had the requisite 8 in her core. However, she didn't have a ship in her discard pile which would have put her at 95, rather she was now at 85. I subsequently finished Terrasphere 8 and just needed to get one more dilemma in her core and my start of turn to snag victory. She journeyed to Obtain Vaccine in the attempt to acquire victory for her Kirk and crew. I got the eighth dilemma where it needed to be and held her up with a Timescape in the combo. My turn, and alternate victory conditions met, FW, 100-85. (even though I only had 70 points printed off missions completed.) I do like avc, not to be confused with awc?

Round 2KlingonKyle ScheweFL (+1)
Kyle and Klingons, again. Oh boy. Not looking good for my dp, as many of the S8472 dilemmas get a walkthrough from the red ridgeheads. Sure enough, he held me at bay all game from completing even a single mission. Though I tried. gg, oh bearded one. My FL, 0-100.

Round 3KlingonI.C.FL (+1)
Ivo, was also running Klingons, but, interestingly enough, a No Peace in Our Time build. One I've dabbled with before on a couple of occasions. So, intriguing. He also kept me from getting more than 3 S8472 dilemmas in his core. And at least I nabbed Northwest Passage before the game was over. My FL, 35-100. GG, oh fearless (yet odd & odder) tournament director. Thank you for running both events and hope to see the three of you guys up in Fargo in the near future! We certainly look forward to next year's Regional events in Winnipeg!

Closing Thoughts
During the first round, I vocally nominated Kyle as the MVP Sportsman of the day. He really helped my daughter, Kalli, out in their game, and it was awesome. As she hasn't played too much Trek yet (only Tribbles, for the most part), his sportsmanlike conduct was greatly appreciated. I'm thankful we have players like him who are willing to help the next generation. Trek on. Oh, and the tiebreaking best moment (to Kyle's wonderful assistance, that is) was when my 7 year old, Kalli, turned to me and asked, "Dad, will you help me put my own 2E deck and my own 1E deck together?" I'm beaming. To borrow from an obscure '80's duo, 'The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.' [Timbuk3, for those of you wondering.]
