For Whom the Hell's Bells Toll |
Introduction |
This was one of two options I had for this big show. The other being my TOS S8472 deck that I ran the night before in the side event tourney. Going into the competition here, I felt that an advantage would be had, considering that most players would likely be teching against all-space Voyager, giving the all-planet strategy a leg up. Also, I had included Sha Ka Ree to mitigate the Dominion point loss decktype. |

Round 1 | | Justin Ford | FL (-65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
We missed getting to play each other in Chicago back in June, so it was awesomely cool to face Justin here. As I'm very familiar with Relativity, I knew we were in for a good game here. And it was. I completed Ceti Alpha V, Forge Settlement on either first or second attempt, iirc. But, then, had to wait for Joaquin to show up in order to build our flagship (our only ship, of course) before I could jaunt off and expand the Great Khanate Empire. I had been working on Genesis Planet, by the time Justin completed his third mission. It would be nice if there was an additional means to getting an additional ship into play in this decktype (much in the way that any old deck can run multiple ships and do the taxi-ing thing) something along the lines of the Botany Bay maybe having reporting text to Ceti Alpha V [and not invalidating Joaquin, naturally] and perhaps allowing Genetically Enhanced personnel to report aboard it, or those two things on a new non-aligned U.S.S. Reliant, or somesuch. Please, get on it Design. We Khan players would thank you. |

Round 2 | | Steve Nelson | FL (-30) |
Here, Steve ran his Bajoran Resistance/combat deck of late. I know it fairly well as I've faced it a couple times previous (and even piloted my own version in the last few months.) We had a good game here, too. I nabbed CAV, FS on first attempt, iinm, and had him sweating my lead. He scored some JLOT points, while Trazko-ing me twice, at the least, as until I could get off planetside from CAV, as Joaquin also took his sweet time showing up, so again, that ship thing as previously mentioned. Design?, please take notice. I did throw Udar under the bus to keep one of my Treachery peeps alive, so there's that small consolation. I went and grabbed Survey New World, as it was my 'easy mission' with the third target being Genesis. However, before I could sew up the win, Steve's Bajorans had gotten both a planet and a space mission and enough JLOT points for the two mission kill. A decent loss on my part and a game I did enjoy, truth. Good game, Steve. But, I will get you in the future. If not next time, then, somewhere down the line. heh heh. |

Round 3 | | Justin Kaufman | ML (-35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Justin's Bluegills. He's been running them for awhile now and so I am somewhat familiar with the deck. His dilemmas certainly seemed to have more teeth here, guess we've been educating him well on solid, standard combos. Iirc, I got CAV in about three attempts, I think?, but then he held me at bay from getting Genesis by the time he wrapped up two of his missions and the clock had ticked down. Mot was an annoying functionary here, for Justin. It would be cool if the Khan deck could get somebody similar to Mot or Telle, to help with the stock dilemma play. Please? |
I was able to get ahead of Matthew as he had to wait to get Joaquin to get his ship out. |

Round 4 | | Jeremy Benedict | FL (-45) |
Jeremy's Dominion solver. Now, imbued with the point loss shenanigans. Another deck I'm both familiar playing against and in playing my own version(s) of, so no major surprises here. I scored CAV in decent time. Then nabbed Genesis after some hard work at it. I started on Sha Ka Ree to offset the point loss as my plan to pull the FW, but, he held me up there by the time he completed his third mission. Khan's compatriots could certainly use some more tricks like the two Jemmie excluders; some more ways to get reinforced skills like Diplomacy, Archaeology, and a little bit more Leadership to help deal with the standard skill attrition dilemmas; Unstop effects/stop prevention in the realm of The Central Command, Ruling Council, Unyielding, or Homeward Bound, but, of course with a GE themed cost would also be appreciated. |

Round 5 | | Ben Johnson | FW (+100) |
My buddy, Ben. Piloting his latest TNG deck. I snagged CAV by third or fourth turn, easy. Then, turned my sights to Genesis, and knocked that one out in fairly short order. Then, went to SNW and worked on it, all the while holding Ben up at his first space mission, when the Augments took victory like they should have been doing all day. Thanks for the game, Ben. |

Closing Thoughts |
Don't get me wrong. Even though I went 1-4, I had a fun day. Yes, it would have been nice to have a few more tricks to compete with the polished warhorses I came up against, but, all in all, it was a decent showing. Please, please, please, Design, for those of us who enjoy playing this decktype, we would like the Phase 2 treatment, even if there are those who don't consider this a valid affiliation/sub-faction, we enjoy the opportunities offered and see the potential therein. More personnel with varied skills, and at least some of the abovementioned tricks in order to compete with the big boys, if you'd be so kind. |
