Borg will assimilate your TNG homeworld 2.0 |
Introduction |
This was an updated deck I took to 1E Regional in Palm Bay. The dilemmas were pretty much the same but I added a few cards in the draw deck and changed out a few Tent cards (since that deck wasn’t making proper use of Make It So).
I normally go Establish Gateway, Assimilate Homeworld followed by either another Assimilate Homeworld or a Establish Gateway/Resistance is Futile.

Round 1 | | Derrick Marsh | MW (+8)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
I got a great opening hand with a variety of cards including Awaken and Activate Subcommands. The one major problem I had was drawing one of my six counterparts to use Assimilate Homeworld as well as make use of Service the Collective to probe on the same turn I finished scouting. I finally was able to draw one and easily won round two with a timed win. |
First time playing against a Borg deck. I held my ground, but Sean was just blitzing through my dilemmas. It's pretty annoying how Borg are. Sharing all of the skills basically makes them eat up skill dilemmas. He never ran into my Denevan Neural Parasites and he had his cube and sphere running around attempting missions, making it easy for him. I couldn't capture anything either to score bonus points. |

Round 2 | | Derek Marlar | FW (+63)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
My second game I had a different problem… I could not staff my ship for the longest time. I couldn’t get a second [green icon] Borg drone to move and get scouting. I actually was pretty well staffed for anything when I finally got underway. My opponent did slow me down with a Ferengi Ambush that allowed him to attack me and prevent probing. Unfortunately Derek forgot to attack me on his following turn allowing me to beam up and probe… assimilating his Ferengi on the Klingon homeworld into my collective.
I ended up winning by playing Resistance is Futile on my completed Establish Gateway and then scouting his Wormhole Negotiations mission for another Establish Gateway to get to 100 points.

I was saved by his inability to staff his tactical cube for several turns. Then he established a gateway and assimilated Qonos. I forgot to score 5 points in an away team battle, then forgot to attack his stopped away team to prevent assimilation of the [Kli] homeworld. I learned i need to divide my Dual mission attempts more evenly between crew and awayteam. Had to use FF:RC early because of a Dip or Emp ship destruction dilemma (since i had never seen a real life V'ger before i didn't recognize it at all, to Dip or Boom was not an option i had prepared for). Hint: Sharing Diplomacy can be detrimental to mission attempts, it is a coin toss based on this game alone. |

Round 3 | | Matthew King | FL (+90) |
This ended up being a good game. He got going real fast with his TNG Ferengi. I was smart enough to stay far away even though I could take his ships out.
Matthew solved a 40 point mission so I opened a First Contact pack and got 3 drones, 2 Fed personnel, a Temporal Vortex and an objective.
On my space mission I used my Borg Sphere and not my Cube to scout for Establish Gateway. Good thing. I hit Cytherians. I was able to eventually get a Gateway built and assimilated Romulus.
On one space mission he lost one ship to Cytherians, another to Conundrum and a third to Invasive Procedures.
I was able to complete a second Establish Gateway to put me in the lead. With assimilated Reginald Barclay (from my FC pack) aboard my Sphere I had a 92 to 90 lead. All I needed to do was play the Resistance is Futile in my hand to win.
Unfortunately I made a major mistake. Instead of returning my Cytherians-affected Sphere to my hand after his Conundrum-affected ship moved to its location, I let him attack and destroy it to score the 10 points for the win. If I had returned my Sphere to my hand I would have had another turn and would have won our game and the tournament.

Closing Thoughts |
One major mistake in the third round really cost me the chance to win the tournament. I do believe the ability of the Borg to skill share with double skills allows them to blow through most dilemmas - especially when giving the Queen empathy. Adding the Sphere was a major plus as it can report to and launch from a Cube. I easily can see the Borg competing at a high level - even against attack decks. |
