DS9 battle |
Introduction |
Lately, laziness combined with a fevered addiction to playing Nintendo 3DS, has stifled deckbuilding mojo, so I dug up a deck I had created about 6 months ago and never got a chance to play. Was a good thing too, I may have had to print and play a virtual starter otherwise. |

Round 1 | | Maggie Geppert | FL (-100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Here is where I come to the understanding of how long its been since I played constructed 2e. At some point a few turns in, I got impatient and went out to attempt. Of course Maggie chose then to make her move. I was stuck on a planet, and by the time I could get home, play the Prometheus and some attack events, she was out of reach and I was out of time. When I realized that I couldn't destroy her before I got 8472'd, I conceded. |
Ed was running a very interesting DS9/Earth all Gamma Quadrant deck. It looked like a standard solver to me, but I would soon be proven wrong. I got lucky with my opening hand and drew two Combined Attacks, so got my S8472 on early. When Ed went out to attempt stuff with the Defiant, he ran into trouble with Unusual Simulacrum and The Weak Will Perish, so more S8472 dilemmas in core. I took a couple of turns to get Northwest Passage done, giving me the chance to finish up with 8 dilemmas in his core. I had one attempt at Terrsphere 8 and a bunch of peeps on the planet when Ed got out the Prometheus and 2 Precise Attacks. I was starting to get nervous about battle when Ed decided that he couldn't win, and conceded to me.

Round 2 | | Jeremy Huth | FW (+100) |
This game went decidedly better. I had a bit of a better draw, and a firm reminder on how to pilot the deck. I blew up one of Jeremy's ships at a planet with God and left his stranded party without a key skill to finish that mission up. In the time it took to get another ship, a crew and skills, I was able to finish on my end of the table. |

Round 3 | | Eric Bieche | FW (+95) |
I feel bad for this game, Im pretty sure Eric had something else on his mind and didn't play in response to my deck type. I was unable to conceal the fact that I was playing ship destruction due to poor draws: ended up with way too many cards in my hand and was forced to dump some attack events along with a copy of the Prometheus. Eric ran into a Gomtuu but then chose to stay out and attempt again next turn with a damaged ship. A stop and a Precise Attack later and I think the game was pretty well decided. |

Closing Thoughts |
I take absolutely nothing away from Maggie, but Im grinding my teeth for newb-ing it up in game one. Voyager, with no HQ, should have been easy prey to hunt down and blow up, but I boffed too hard to recover from. I would like to try this deck again, but I'm aware of how crappy it is to run ship destruction in small locals, so maybe for the masters. |
