DragonCon 2014 Klingon Korath Deck 2 |
Introduction |
This is the first of three 2E tournaments scheduled for DragonCon over the Labor Day Weekend. I expected to see Romulans and lots of Events so I decided to go into the first tournament with my Korath event destruction deck. I have lots of equipment and even some Grav-Plating Traps to keep my opponent's events to a minimum. |
|
Round 1 | | John Kinney | ML (-35) |
The first game against John started out exactly as I expected except he was playing a Cardassian capture deck. I was destroying his events about as fast as he played them. I got Korath and equipment in my opening hand and was able to also draw into a couple of GPTs as well.
Then my luck went dry and I didn't draw any equipment for a few turns. That was all John needed to get his capture stuff going. He kept tossing down one event after the other and pretty soon, there was nothing I could do to stop him.
He ended up capturing several of my people and forced me to discard in order to use necessary skills to overcome subsequent dilemmas. He also Dreamer and the Dreamed me to add insult to injury. I was able to keep him from getting a full victory, but he was able to outscore me 70-35 giving him the modified win. |

Round 2 | | Jason L. Becker | FW (+65) |
Jason on the other hand, played very few events. I was able to just concentrate on getting my people into play and doing mission attempts. We traded dilemmas back and forth as we took turns going after our missions. I was able to come out on top to get a full win, 105-35. |

Round 3 | | Kevin Reitzel | FL (-40) |
My game against Kevin was a very close and exciting game. Our forces were very well matched up against each other and we played a pretty defensive game. It could have gone either way as time was running out. Kevin stopped me from getting the full win and then took the victory for himself on the last turn of the game. Even his getting that last mission was a squeaker as he and I had to count and re-count his attributes to be sure he had enough for the mission. Good game and Kevin gets the full win, 105-60. |

Closing Thoughts |
I didn't see the match-ups I expected. No Romulans. That's because Greg (Tomalak) wasn't in attendance at Dragoncon this year. We had eight players though, so I was happy with the turn-out non-the-less. This was also my 10th tournament playing Klingon so I earned the Chancellor badge for this one. |
