Indiana Tholun and the Iconian Dispute |
Introduction |
I played Dominion, largely resembling the deck I played in a previous online tournament, but revised and hopefully improved. Loads of Vorta, some Founders, and random other people do relatively easy Cunning missions. |
|
Round 1 | | Matt Kirk | FW (+55) |
Captmdkirk played a three HQ, two mission win deck, with Bajor, DS9, and TNG HQ. He had two forty point missions and a bunch of bonus point gimmicks. We both started out with bonus point stuff and AWC? in multiples (him with Guinan and Kira Taban, me with the Guinan points and Eris the Harbinger). Everything seemed to work for my deck and my dilemma pile, though. Eventually he solved Protect Wormhole when I couldn’t draw any useful dilemmas one turn, but overall I still moved through my missions faster than he did. He had trouble at his second mission Curing the Blight because my Instigate Dissension landed on his DS9, preventing him from playing 3 Medical Julian Bashir. He also played the Dal’rok against my crew full of 4-cost Founders and 6-cost NA Bashir, which was key to letting me solve Archanis Dispute. When I moved on to Iconia Investigation he got an unhelpful draw and couldn’t stop enough of my guys. FW to me, 110 to 45. |

Round 2 | | Michael Van Breemen | FL (-40)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
My opponent used a crazy gimmicky deck, with Starfleet, Klingon,a nd Dominion HQs, and Assist Cloaked Ship and Signal For Rescue. He used Malcom Reed, Weapons Expert; Optimism; The Dominion Will Prevail; Dominion Defiant; Ja’Chuq, and Call to Arms to put loads of dilemmas under his missions and get enough points to win. It was a crazy deck. While he spent most of the game setting up, I solved Staged Bombardment and Archanis Dispute. He got ACS. Eventually the score was 60 me to 45 him. It came down to my attempting Iconia Investigation; if I could solve, I would win. I failed. Next turn he did his tricks, and got the FW over me, 100 to 60. Very fun game! |
My kingdom for random selection prowess. I actually had a pretty good start to this game but he was attempting a 4-range GQ mission which is fine... if his shields were under the weapons of the Defiant which a Dominion Battleship is not. Since I didn't have the Range to get there with my Kronos One, I could only wait until he came to my quadrant. Once there and once he figured out what I was doing, he did his best to hide the ship where I couldn't touch it. I used the time with Malcolm Reed to place more underneath my missions until I could attack the ship again. Once again, got enough dilemmas underneath my missions to not encounter a dilemma. |

Round 3 | | Johannes Klarhauser | FL (-55)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Kaiser played Ferengi; the only major Ferengi trick he used was Reyga, though. Kaiser got going faster and started attempting sooner; it took me a little while extra to find a ship. After a couple turns of successful stops, Reyga helped him solve Acquire Illicit Explosives when I forget about him and played In Development (fail on my part). Gorgan and the 9-cost Rule stopped me once I made my first attempt meanwhile. Kaiser moved on to Geological Survey. I misplayed Healing Hand when he had no Medical, so he solved Geo Surv. Next he proceeded to Expand Business Opportunities. An epic 13-man attempt put many dilemmas under. Eventually I solved Stage Bombardment, and moved on to try a couple attempts at Archanis Dispute. It was to no avail, and he solved Expand Business Opportunities next turn. The final score was 100 to 45. It was a good game, nothing too crazy, just fun. |
Triumph played several high-cost personnel at the beginning of the game, so I had a slight speed advantage even though I couldn't get my extra counter engine going until late in the game. I got two nice stops out of Gorgan (#141) and Unwanted Guests (Lwaxana Troi) on the defensive end, and caught a break offensively when was able to cheat away an In Development with Reyga. |
