Introduction |
Just trying a Dominion solver. It flopped badly the first game - I had no answers for any of Auwey's dilemmas. Given the pathetic first-game showing, I'm genuinely surprised at how well the deck performed in games 2 and 3.
I feel like the commodity stuff might be too unreliable to devote the deck to it, but splashing a little could be useful. I heartily despise Crom because of the part of his text that says "You may not play Transport Crash Survivor." (Just explaining why I didn't use certain aspects of recent Dominion stuff.) |

Round 1 | | Auwerd Bijker | FL (-65) |
Auwey was playing Romulan infiltrator deck. I might have had a chance...maybe, but I played stupidly a few times early on. He would have blown me away totally except that he had a terrible shuffle and couldn't draw ships (aside from the first carrying around Sela and some infiltrators, Kieran Macduff and someone I forget). The game went to time, but in the end his 25 or so personnel on table solved two missions in his final turn. He killed or captured about 15 of my personnel throughout the game. I managed to solve my first mission but then stalled out and couldn't really do much except have people die or go to brig. |

Round 2 | | Oliver Thust | FW (+60) |
Well, that was different. My deck worked very nicely this game. Oliver was playing a TNG deck with Loaded for Bear to fuel AWC? and all Bio missions for Vintner. My dilemmas performed very well, and his underperformed just enough to let me solve - I believe I got each of my missions on the second attempt. I also got out attempting slightly faster, which helped. FW, 105-40. |

Round 3 | | William Hoskin | FW (+55) |
The Hoskin had a TOS, Sabotaged Transporter-setting-up-Back-to-Basics, 40-point-mission, 2-mission-win deck. I got a poor starting hand (all my most expensive personnel) and a slow start, but my dilemmas performed amazingly, stopping the TOS folks turn after turn as they tried to Eliminate Sphere Network. I got two missions solved and started on my third before he finished his first, even though he started attempting sooner. Meanwhile,Sabotaged Transporter kept killing off my people, but I managed to keep enough in play (thanks in part to some convenient draws when I might have run out of key skills) to keep plugging along and eventually win. FW, 105-45. |

Round 4 | | Unjustly Banned | FL (-65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
My game against the Greater Hoskin Brother went much less well than my game against the Lesser Hoskin Brother. ;) His TOS solver got started quickly, and my dilemmas failed totally at Advanced Battle Simulation. For my pat, I couldn’t draw personnel, and the few I did draw didn’t have Exobio (even with 7 of it in the deck). I attempted at Destroy Iconian Gateway (foolishly) and got Necessarily Executed. Shran and McCoy then took it and another dilemma back. Meanwhile, he solve ALC to reduce me to three personnel in play. He captured Odo with Inequitable Exchange. He killed a bunch of people with Whisper + Dal’rok. I think I ended the game with four personnel in play. FL, 35-120. |
Triumph - I really must ask him his name one day - was playing a Dominion Commodity deck. Aside from Triumph blowing up my Surprise Party with Sense of Obligation, nothing much happened on the first four turns besides us both playing personnel.
I left Earth on turn five, with nine personnel to attempt Advanced Battle Simulation. Ominous Presence stopped Haadok (a Vulcan) and my only other Vulcan, who was another Haadok. I then faced Disruptor Accident and decided to stop two rather than have anybody die. On his turn, Triumph played two personnel, but couldn't go anywhere without a ship.
Turn six saw me reattempt my space mission with nine personnel. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? stopped Ilia, and I had to double up the Treachery on Maras with Security Drills to overcome Occupational Hazards. With just one personnel stopped, I completed the mission and took an extra 10 points with the Enterprise-B. Triumph then played a ship on his turn. He also tried to play Felecium, but I prevented that with Worf. One thing I've learnt against Commodity decks is that the opponent can't use commodities if he doesn't have them in play. Triumph then moved to Destroy Iconian Gateway and attempted with seven personnel. I played Necessary Execution (one death prevented by Emergency Transport Unit) and Moral Choice to stop the attempt.
I replayed Worf on turn seven, and moved to Aid Legendary Civilization for my next attempt. My nine personnel faced He Wasn't Nice (killing Maras) and then Picking Up the Pieces. Strangely, I didn't have any personnel with either Geology or Programming in my team, so they were all stopped. One was Shran though, so I got to take Necessary Execution back from Destroy Iconian Gateway. Triumph played a second ship on his turn, and then attempted his mission with the six personnel he had there. I had to burn an Unexpected Difficulties, but stopped the attempt with Pitching In.
Turn eight saw me play McCoy and take both dilemmas back from Triumph's mission. My nine personnel faced Infatuation and then Instigate Dissension and couldn't complete the mission after that. On his turn, Triumph played Odo (the Great Link's Savior) and a Jem'Hadar. Having flown home for reinforcements, he then moved to Rescue Prisoners of War with eight personnel. I used Inequitable Exchange to capture Odo (he's a huge pain in the ass), and then stopped three more personnel with Unfair Comparison.
On turn nine, I played a couple of personnel and attempted Aid Legendary Civilization again. Triumph could only play Back Room Dealings, and that would have killed someone if it weren't for the Driven I played. I had to discard a Kirk from hand, but it was worth it. Or so I thought. I turns out that I didn't have the mission skills and couldn't complete the mission. Triumph played another Karemma Freighter on his turn. He then attempted his space mission with all seven personnel he had in play. Unfair Comparison stopped them cold.
I played three more personnel on turn ten, including some all-important mission skills. Having picked them up, I then gave Triumph one dilemma to draw/play and he couldn't use it. That let me complete the mission and put Bashir, Scotty and McCoy under my deck to force Triumph to put four of his seven personnel under his deck. I then moved to The Last Outpost (which requires 2 Diplomacy) and my nine personnel were stopped by Blended (which stopped all but one Diplomacy personnel.) Triumph played three personnel on his turn and, thanks to all his ships, was able to attempt Rescue Prisoners of War with six personnel. I could only play Secret Identity, so I took out Hanok. Triumph replaced him with Remata'Klan. I think he came out on top in that exchange. He then completed the mission to put the score at 85-35 to me.
I tried an upgraded Helen Noel to start turn eleven and, once again, only revealed one non-skill dilemma from the four. I then formed two teams of seven personnel for The Last Outpost. The first was stopped by Healing Hand and Honorable Pursuit, although I used Security Drills to double up both sills to keep the dilemmas. Triumph only had three dilemmas to draw/play for my second attempt, but found a Rogue Borg Ambush to stop me and kill Sulu at the same time. On his turn, Triumph them played two more personnel and attempted Expand Business Opportunities with all eight of his personnel. In Development stopped two; Whisper in the Dark killed Martok Founder, Remata'Klan and Sybok; and finally The Dal'Rok killed Lovok Founder. That put him down to four personnel in play again.
On turn twelve, I drew cards and played a few more events to keep my 8-cost dilemmas cheap. I then attempted The Last Outpost with eight personnel, giving Triump four to draw/play against me. He used Secret Identity to take out Worf, but I replaced him with John Harriman (who had three of the four skills I needed to complete the mission). Then my team faced Assassination Attempt and Haadok and Willard Decker were killed. That didn't matter though, and my six remaining personnel completed the mission for the win.

Closing Thoughts |
I feel the Dominion have potential, I'm just not smart enough to make them work. Alas. |
