Introduction |
A Starfleet (and Starfleet/Klingon) deck that uses four Time Locations, and lots of tricks. Among them are special downloads on the opponent's turn (to trigger Ready to Swim twice as often), and Summon the Future (conversion rules make all AU icons the same) to give me a draw/cycle when I play any noun and many verbs. |

Round 1 | | Mark | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Mark (soggy) was playing a Sybok deck based on one from Allen. Report Sybok through TMW to override his restriction box, and play Release This Pain onto various dual-personnel cards to boost Sha Ka Ree twice as fast, to make a 1-mission win. But the deck is too slow ... he didn't fly his only ship until about turn 7, and only then got Sybok with J'Onn to speed up the RTP plays.
I got going quickly, with a Summon the Future in my opening hand, so I drew through much of my deck rather fast. I rescued my whales, and killed his. I attempted a planet mission and lost a few to Horta (though Phlox saved some), then got stuck there first by failing Q, then by tripping a DFG. An STP-drop to report one more engineer saved me from that, and I solved the mission but got stopped anyway by Mission Debriefing. For the next (space) mission, I now had two ships which made things easier. One was stopped by Arsenal Separated, but the other passed it (and then lost 2 to Nagilum). Next turn, one was stopped by the Cloud, but the other solved. By now I had Prejudice and Politics out, and it went 1 for 2, getting me to 90 points. Start of my next turn, I played the Phoenix to my HQ for the win. |
vs commdecker
A complete Alpha Quadrant spaceline with a duplicated Earth, and plenty of Time Location goodness. We both had 22nd Century San Francisco and Cetacean Institute. He also had Drone Control Room and Augment Research Facility, and I had Camp Khitomer. Our spacelines were separated, but Earth ended up in the middle of his half.
Decker was netting a bunch of draws, and One Man Cannot Summon The Future cycles each turn. It didn't take me very long to get Surprise Party out, giving me 3 draws a turn with Duck Blind.
My brain was a bit fried with testing out Borg vs Fed for the fourth Talos tournament, which didn't help me get into the groove.
Decker naturally got to attempting first, and Phlox (Alien Physiologist) stopped himself to save someone from Horta. There was a disagreement about whether he could save someone at the end of the turn, despite already being stopped. The next attempt, the team couldn't get rid of Duonetic Field Generator. I should have flipped Mission Debriefing at this point, but I didn't. Another team came to pass Duonetic, and I flipped Mission Debriefing. Another team then came to solve.
I started getting my Release This Pains out, first with Bev and Will. I used Regenerate a couple of turns to get the Masaka cards back. By the end of the game I had RTPs on 3 dual personnel and 1 Sybok-related personnel.
Decker got his Treaty out and picked up the Klingons to go attempting Assist Cloaked Ship. Arsenal Divided stopped Enterprise, then Sarajevo came and passed that but lost a couple folk to Nagilum. Next turn, after some crew shuffling, Enterprise got stopped by The Cloud, then Sarajevo went and picked up a just-played person for the rest of the Integrity needed to solve the mission. Prejudice And Politics scored him 5 points, bringing him to 90, then the next turn he reported Phoenix to San Francisco for the final 10 points.
Final score: 100-0, full win to Decker. |

Round 2 | | Ben Hosp | FL (-20) |
Hosp was playing a Klingon/Fed deck, based on using Spacedoor to get out each universal ship with a personnel download, and '45 to also get the unique version. Early on, he commandeered Empok Nor and used it to scan Mining Survey. He was therefore able to pass Aggressive Behavior unscathed, but he lost one of his mission specialists to Ankari. He eventually solved it with only 1 MS rather than his planed 2, for 45 points. He made up the "missing" 5 with File Mission Report (NMR > Ben Sisko > Jake > FMR). I had by then rescued my whales [15], and hit Personal Duty/Friendly Fire at Chin'toka. While waiting for the countdown, I went after Control Plague, and passed its Access Denied dilemma combo with 1EC cheater cards: Fitting In boosted Trip to CSx3, and Archer (reported, along with lots more, via the STP trick -- SummonFuture was out first turn again) boosted Malcolm so that he was safe from Dejaren. I solved that for 35, and then attempted Chin'toka again *without Navigation*, since I didn't want to solve on the same turn due to Ben's In the Zone. But T'Pol was able to pass ITPM, the only remaining dilemma. I got P&P (missed the first try, got the second) to take the lead, 55-50. I planed to win on the next turn, by playing the Phoenix for 10 and solving for 35. But on Ben's turn, he brought his ISS Enterprise (V JTK V Tantalus) to Seat of Starfleet, where the whales were. They couldn't be battled ... but they were vulnerable to the Tantalus Field. His other forces contended with the Medical dilemmas at Free Orion Slaves, but didn't clear it. My turn again, I solved Chin'toka for 35 (no Phoenix, that would lose my "We're Ready" draw and so it's best saved for winning), and P&P (now with Dalby) for 5 ... but now with only 80 points, I needed to try a third mission. I had the Treaty out now, and some augments from the STP-drop, so I attempted Romulus. The first team, with the Vulcan Tricorder, was two points shy of passing with integrity ... so the second team, with a gun, passed with strength ... and, as predicted, lost several people to an DNP. They couldn't pass the last wall, and I was done. Ben got the Starship Enterprise and McCoy to nullify my Medical Crisis, and solved FOS for 35. He also earned the Genesis Device there, and joined it with Kruge (Ops dl) for his last 15 points and the win, 100-80. |

Round 3 | | Jeremy Huth | FL (-15) |
I'm writing this up several months later, which is a bad idea. 9of24, true to his name, played Borg, with a HP010 deck (two DQ space). I felt good that I had stocked Remote Interference, and my Raptor One could ping him to delay HP010 probing. Meanwhile I saved the whales, reported augments, and attempted missions. I played P&P, and got out Dalby -- yes, I probe-rigged the Borg. (Never successfully, though.) Around when I solved my first mission, Jeremy completed scouting for EG, and switched to HP010 -- and flew his cube with all personnel to the other DQ mission. He explained why up front, since it was a controversial rule reading. He saw in the Glossary that what prevents Borg probing is if "your Borg" battle at that location. And generally, a phrase like "your Borg" means your Borg personnel (like in "your Borg may scout"), so it doesn't include his empty Outpost which was the only Borg card he left at that location. I knew this wasn't how it was usually played, but once he pointed it out, it did look like the correct way to read the rule. I agreed with his reading, and didn't even bother getting my Raptor One over there. (He later posted this on the Gameplay board, where Dan and Allen defended the traditional reading, but didn't really rebut Jeremy's counterarguments; I still think he was right.) He solved that and I solved a second mission, but until P&P worked I needed a third. I waited for a Friendly Fire countdown at Chintoka while he worked on assimilating Cardassia with STC; he won, but I would have next turn. Since a Raptor ping would have delayed him one turn, it really all came down to that controversial rule reading. |

Round 4 | | Missed Game | MG (0) |
The loss in round 3 got me paired against Danny, who's in a time zone that's typically difficult for me to schedule against. We both had crazy weeks this week that limited our scheduling, and we failed to find a time we both could make. So that Borg ruling would have swung me much higher in this tourney -- not only a win in round 3, but I probably would have been able to play my round 4 game and get at least 1 VP for that. |
