Drafting Tribbles |
Introduction |
I've been signing up for the Talos tournaments all year because I was trying to get the gold achievement for "Win 5". I finally did get that 5th win last month, but by the time that was known, the draft for this month was already underway. So here I am, with my drafted TWT deck.

Round 1 | | Jeremy Huth | FW (+75) |
Jeremy and I both had Feds, and four duped missions. Early on, I got a runabout and flew Gibson over to the shared Test Mission so she could score CSF (then the crew of 2 was safely stoped by a Chula requiring 3) ... and Jeremy similarly scored 5 from Slots, before getting stopped by my LOP so he was down 5. He pushed through and solved Diplomacy Mission, losing Mendon to a love interest. He then spent the next 3 turns doing nothing but rescuing him. Meanwhile, I fly my relatively slow runabout through the Badlands, mostly clearing Verify Evidence. With Mendon back, Jeremy tried Cargo Rendezvous, but lost Mendon again to Kelvan (and Haz Duty for -5). I zoomed over and "stole" the shared Cargo Rendezvous for 40, score now 45-20. He next tried his space mission, and cleared all the dilemmas including his CSF, but WayHome got rid of his only Engineer, so he couldn't cure the MBT on the ship and was stuck ... and had no Physics to solve either. I tried Coup, where Lt Grant fulfilled his destiny and got killed by a Horta (and -5 for HazDut), then I CURED it with Selar, T'Shonra, Ogawa, McClure, and Shanthi! Chula the Game stopped me at the end, and I waited that out while Jeremy waited to get a ship. This was also when I finally remembered to start doing Tribbles. Jeremy got a ship, but by then the location had 100 Tribbles, and he only had one Leadership (Shanthi had been killed by a Gorn earlier). He did finally cure the MBT with a second engineer, but I waited out the game and solved Coup for 35, then back to VE for 40, final 115-25. |

Round 2 | | Kenneth Tufts | FL (-95)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Ken was running a Kli/Baj battle deck, and he put his outpost at the same mission as mine. I got a few Feds out, but Bajorans and no ship yet, and attempted at the outpost mission ... to quite unfortunately run into a Horta. Its first kill was Thomas McClure, and losing that Exobiology put a real crimp in my plans later to cure it. Then I got a ship, and flew over to the far end of the Badlands for another planet mission. This I cleared out quickly, passing Lineup with Shanthi and even (surprise) Microvirus with Selar and Balok+OSphaser, but got stopped by the final one, Palukoo, which disabled Balok. Ken then seized his opportunity and flew a hit squad to there for personnel battle, killing my non-Vulcans. This left me with Selar and MrTuvok, who couldn't staff my Galaxy until Balok got better. Over the next several turns, Ken killed my personnel and blew up my ship and I couldn't stop it, though I staved off Tuvok's death for two extra turns with LLAP. I reported a few people back at the outpost just in time to get the outpost blown up ... my people escaped to the planet, but they got picked off there by the Horta just before I could res-Q the outpost back to hand. That is, I had the Res-Q already, but just after the OP hit the discard pile, I used my card play to res-Q it, and that's the turn when my last people died and couldn't rebuild it with my next card play. So Ken solved three missions (and my self-seeded CSF) at his leisure, though I did get a nice play when a Chula removed T'Kar, with his ENG and mission skills, before a Menthar Booby Trap ... so they couldn't move or solve. Until next turn. 100-5. |
Another fed deck, as i expected, but with a seeded fed/baj treaty this worried me quite a bit as if he played any bajorians I would lose soem significant ships and one of my leaders from my battle flete to affilation attack restrictions, luckly he never played any Bajorians.
A solid fast moving deck he was out attempting fast, my draw was sub par i was missing more thenone officer/leader fro quite a while, and has les sthen 30 weaposn of ships in my hand for quite soem time, but i built up a bit then when he moved out to attempt a planet, i took stock did a quick DHW DL of guy that gets a Batleth and went for blood, with the extra kill from the batleth, and Balok sufferign a spider bite. I was able to strand him evetuly killign the whole crew and ship, that was just what i needed to give me tiem to assemble enough leaders and ships to take out the outpost, his people abandoned to the planat bellow but there was already a horta there to nom on them. He kept going hopign to draw in to his Q-net but i got 3 missions off first. |

Round 3 | | Rem Boon | FW (+5) |
Again, a Fed opponent and 4 duped missions. Rem started early on Cargo Rendezvous where he'd put his outpost, and my killer combo took out Nagata (mission skill) and Odo (to prevent passing the DangLi wall at the end). (And my HazDut cancelled out his Slots.) He replayed a new Nagata, but by then I also had all my Tribbles there, and he also needed 2 Lead, 2 Exo, and do it all without his first-listed skills or more than 10 people. I tried Diplomacy Mission, but lost Balok to a well-placed Zaldan. Then I tried Verify Evidence, but Scotty was shown The Way Home which left the ship stuck by Menthar Booby Trap. At least Rem was stuck too: until now he had no ship, and while he did play one on his next turn, he couldn't staff it because he had played no command stars at all. We both did little, waiting for the right draws, for 4 turns. He broke first, playing Jace Michaels. They went out and solved Test Mission, then tried AgAss and guess who got shown The Way Home? Jace, so now we both had ships stuck. I then got another ship too, rescued my people, and solved both Verify Evidence and Diplomacy Mission, bringing me from -5 (HazDut) to 75 (including a CSF from each player at VE). On his next turn, with Jace stopped by a Tribble but using Grebby on a different ship, he returned to movement and solved both AgAss and RDS, bringing him from 30 to an unfortunate 95 (too bad for that HazDut early on). With 25 needed to win, I finally activated DH to get McClure, then brought everyone over to the shared Cargo Rendezvous at which, thanks to the early game, there was only DangLi (plus 11,110 Tribbles). Scotty beamed up the 1k so everyone could use their first-listed skill, and I passed the tribbles with McClure/Ogawa/Sisko; the DangLi with McClure/Chekov+gun/Mendon; and mission skills with Mendon/Sisko.

Round 4 | | Chris Morse | FW (+100) |
I got a runabout in my opening hand, so I quickly sent Gibson and Mendon out to find my CSF at the shared Test Mission, but before they could stop at my Chula, they triggered Chris' 2DC, so that ship was stuck until I found an engineer. A few turns later, I had a staffed Nebula, so I got my people back and tried the mission on the other side of my outpost, Dip Mission -- this time getting people stuck behind Phased Matter. I waited several turns to draw an engineer; meanwhile, Chris was waiting several turns to draw a ship. Finally he got the Galaxy, but had no command stars to staff it. I got Scotty and rescued both ships, and solved Dip Mission (with Grant saving Balok from Zaldan), then moved on to Coup and hit Hazardous Duty. I toyed with killing Chris' Love-Interested Dulmer who was here, to make him lose the points, but couldn't pull it together, with Balok too weak and unable to use the TOS phaser alone. (Answer: Balok + Bern would have done it.) So with HazDut in place, I redshirted with my other Officers, losing Shanthi to Nausicaans and Gibson to Archer, then solving with Balok+Sarita+McClure. By now Chris had thought to use DH for McClure, and he flew to Barzan, getting stuck by 2DC and stopped at Maglock. Now at 75, I needed one more mission, and went after the shared Test Mission. I cleared all the dilemmas, but was stopped at the end by my MBC, because an earlier Chula had removed Balok, my only remaining officer. I was therefore vulnerable to having Chris swoop in to take this, but his only ship in play was at the far end of the spaceline. I solved next turn for a Final Score of 110 (30+30+25 mission points, +5 AMS at Test Mission, +10 from two CSFs, +10 from 62ndRule on Dip Mission ... ) to -10 (62nd).

Closing Thoughts |
Sad to see battle strong in this format too. Beyond that, this was fun! |
