Tournament Report - 2E - Online Event (Return to Farpoint)
2015-07-13 - 12:00 AM
CardassianKlingonRomulanKlingon / Cardassian (and Romulan) Alliance
Introduction
I'll give Farpoint a try. I thought that Farpoint Event #1 might be a good time to try a triple-HQ deck. After all, the cards for multi-HQ hate didn't exist yet. Alas, 50-point missions have high attribute requirements that are hard to get to.

Round 1CardassianKlingonTjark OttFL (-70)
Tjark had two headquarters, and his 3 solvable missions had attribute requirements in the thirties. As a result, he got going a lot sooner than I did. He made two attempts at Rescue Prisoners while I was still assembling people. He solved on the second attempt, with Antedean Assassins stopping his only Anthro ... and so when he continued to Kressari on the same turn (same region, low span), I was able to stop everyone with the same dilemma. I started on Pegasus then, putting a few under each turn. I found that Personal Duty was also good against his team, with many of them having Leadership, so I stopped him with that on several turns as well. He solved, and went for Quest for the Sword. He played Elim Garak with his nice cheater skill, and I did get a fortunate stop with Chula Echoes, which we discovered was not affected by Warriors Birthright (the cunning is not in bold). He solved on the next turn though, even with Kelvan trying to stop him. (And I solved my first mission the turn before, without range to continue to my second.) Post-game, he pointed out that I would have had an interesting chance if I had sent Retaya to his planet, to kill Elim.

Round 2BajoranRomulanAndrey GusevFL (-100)View opponent's Report
I had awful draws in this game, getting 5 of my ships in hand before I had 9 people. I ended up making a few attempts without enough attributes, and getting a few dilemmas under. Andrey tried to give me a tip when I played N'Vek, that he could target my opponent's personnel too ... but then I pointed out that he hadn't played any Romulans, only [Rom] Remans. My big play came at his (2nd or 3rd) attempt at Kressari, his last mission, where I skipped the stop/kill dilemmas and played only Equipment Malfunction ... forcing him to solve the mission without his gun and leaving him at 95 points with all missions solved. Alas, he had point-gaining events in the deck, as he showed me next turn by playing Just Like Old Times and another gun.

Round 3BajoranKlingonJordan SmithFW (+100)
This game went much better, and I actually got some attempts in before Jordan did. The first attempt got none under, since Antedean Assassins bounced (no Anth; I played Vash next). On my third Pegasus attempt, I got through the dilemmas (including the damager Graviton Ellipse; very fortunate since Jordan was also using Maneuver events) but Microbrain stopped Selveth, who had a lot of the mission skills. I found I was able to solve anyway thanks to Nav on Morn and Brull. Then Jordan got to attempting, and my Personal Duty was so effective that Misguided Activist found no targets. In my first attempt at DNA, Vash got killed by Berserk Changeling, and Jordan noted that she was 2 Arch, and he tried to think if I had any left. He remembered Parn, and nothing more. So when I attempted next turn (after playing Lursa and B'Etor to dl Nu'Daq), he gave me no dilemmas ... and I solved with Hiren. (And in between, I played Equipment Malfunction at Kressari again ... but I'd also prevented the solve by stopping Soto with Antedean Assasins.)

Round 4CardassianRomulanDaniel MattesonFL (-100)
My bad draws here were the opposite of round 2, many personnel and no ships for a long time. While I was waiting, Dan got moving early and solved Dilithium Mine on his first attempt, thanks to cheating past Chula Echoes with Comfort Women. If he hadn't, I think I would have captured Elim Garak with Impressive Trophies. Thanks to regions, he still had range to fly to Kressari on the same turn, and Personal Duty stopped enough of his people. Next turn Dan attempted again, and I stopped his only [Rom] with Antedeans; his Cardies solved but couldn't fly the ship away. I finally got a ship, but needed another turn to gather my people from two homeworlds. So, still with the remnants of the crew he'd started attempting with, Dan flew to his final mission, where the combo Authenticate Artifacts and Antedean Assassins stopped everyone. I finally flew to my planet mission, where Temptation missed all my people with Treachery, and then Center of Attention got to kill one of them. As in the last round, Vash with her 2Arch was a predictable target. That left me with only 1. Dan kept playing people to his HQs, but reattempted rather than lose a turn to get them. So I still knew who he had there, and calculated that a Center of Attention would hit, since he had only 2 SEC ... but no, one of them was Elim, who could cheat his way to a third. So okay, we go with bland stoppers like Pinned Down and Chula 1/2, to get his attributes low enough to prevent the solve. On my turn, I played Parn for more Arch, but like Dan, didn't want to spend the time to get him. So I headed to the space mission instead, taking 10 even though it got me Pinned Down (I figured I'll end up with 8 anyway, and this way they're all on the ship instead of stranded somewhere). Misguided Activist targeted Brull, which was a shame since he had most of the skills to prevent its kill. Then Dan finally reported another ship, flew around to get people, and solved his planet with me only able to play a Trabe Grenade ... though it killed Dukat, that didn't stop the solve.

Closing Thoughts
That deck did not go well. 50-point missions are slow.
