Tournament Report - 2E - Online Event |
2012-11-05 - 12:00 AM |
Population approximately nine billion, all Borg |
Introduction |
I wanted to play Borg in this traditional format tournament because, if you have a plan for Gomtuu, the traditional dilemmmas are less effective against them, REM can be used to download Urgency to beat Goval (which I thought would be present), and easy to obtain bonus points means that Phoenix is a non-issue. I went with battle + Changed History since I didn't have access to Harvest Drone in this format, but I don't think one hit the entire tournament. I figured everyone would be rocking Fed, so I stacked my dilemma pile with three copies of Moral Choice -- though never faced them -- and went with a dilemma pile based on Tactical Disadvantage. |

Round 1 | | Oliver Thust | FW (+40) |
Oliver played Klingons. I got out earlier than him and went planet first. My hand ended up getting Dreamer'd which meant my TD dilemma pile was less effective and conceded a mission and later a second. I did, however, manage to solve both my planet missions. I think I used Queen + Cartography + 3 Comps to solve REM in each game. Thank you errata for capping at >42. I also managed to steal one of his personnel with battle. I went to solve Assimilate Resistance for the win. With Locutus being SI'd earlier and one assimilated personnel, Oliver played SI > Gomtuu combo. However, I Adapted to SI and K&E'd Gomtuu to get the win. FW: 100-60. Funny part I just remembered from this game. I think on my first attempt I interlinked 80% of my deck away to Queen swap to take one less stop from a dilemma. As I never drew my Back To Basics at the appropriate time, this meant I was 3 of 10 shuffling the last 4-5 turns of the game. |

Round 2 | | Nickolay Korotya | FW (+30) |
Nickolay and I ended up not being able to find a time to play our game before I left for Thanksgiving. So we picked it up when I got back. Borg versus Borg, but I won the Quintessence battle early and had board control. He was also playing what appeared to be a TD/Gorgan dilemma pile, so there was some cat-and-mouse going on. There was some rocky stretches since, although he didn't have Quintessence, I think he was able to start the game with two turns of Annexation Drone > AWC?. But I was able to outspeed him after that to win. FW: 100-70. |

Round 3 | | Michael Van Breemen | FW (+45)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Mike told me all his game had lasted 30 minutes or less going in, so I was nervous. I hunkered down at REM to make sure I could top deck Urgency. I was going pretty fast and had AR done an REM to autosolve when Mike was able to get his bomb off. At his attempt at IMA, I disregarded Urgency and instead gave him SI, taking out Sisko, followed by Sylvia. SI was the big play since though he still was able to 3x Covenant and solve, this meant he needed to attempt each of his other missions with 2 and an ineffective RATS. His first space I got nothing and he solved. His second I drew a Tactical Disadvantage for the stop, Mike's concession, and my win. FW: 100-55. |
Nate was playing Borg but getting Secret Identity in the top four took out Sisko, forcing me to get in Zayra, giving him two dilemmas per mission attempt. Didn't get anything on the first space attempt but got Skeleton Crew and Tactical Disadvantage on the second for the win. |
|
Round 4 | | Andrew | FW (+90) |
Two rounds behind in the standings, I ended up facing off with Andrew for my third online game in 3 days. Andrew had a cool assassins deck that he expressed had done well in Standard format, but was missing some pieces in Traditional. I think I had a good opening and was able to use speed to get through my missions, despite some good dilemma play on his part. A Quite a Coincidence into Tal'Aura killing the Queen made the final difference. FW: 100-10. |

Closing Thoughts |
Would have preferred to not be paired down, but it's my own fault for taking a break Thanksgiving week. Like always, every time I play assimilation I look over my games and the deck and think, "You know, I probably would've done better if I had dropped the assimilation altogether." I never used One With to round the corner -- partially a product of Changed History whiffing each time. Though, I suppose it might have made the difference if I had faced the Phoenix. |
