Tournament Report - 1E
2013-02-02 - 03:00 PM
FederationIf you had to choose between being the top scientist in your field or getting mad cow disease, what would it be?
Introduction
Dan hooked me on 1E with the pair of tin drafts over the past two months. During that time, I bought my own tin set, and worked on making a TNG deck that could score some achievements I would be, otherwise, be hard-pressed to get. I got pretty fortunate in my games and managed to finish 4-0. My first 1E victory!

Round 1FerengiJD_AshleyFW (+100)
Luck was on my side against JD, who was playing TNG Ferengi. We seeded a pair of duplicate missions, but since he didn't seed anything beneath one, I was able to solve it after he hit a few of my dilemmas. I also got lucky and got Kirk through a Personal Duty -- thus being able to pass the Friendly Fire behind it. Meanwhile, JD was struggling with my dilemmas before I pulled off the win.

Round 2FederationCharlie PlaineFW (+7)
Charlie had a really cool Vulcan deck which made my Barclay's combos pretty tame as he was able to replay Spocks and Sareks for free each turn. As I was digging for my last Exobiology to pass my now-cleared last missions. Charlie had to make a choice for his fourth mission after The Higher..The Fewer dropped him below 100. He ended up making the wrong choice as my own Personal Duty-Friendly Fire stopped him cold, and I was able to pull off the win with Martin next turn.

Round 3KlingonMatt KirkFW (+30)
Matt was playing TNG Klingons. A Genesis Effect on his mission worked brilliantly as he was able to avoid Friendly Fire. However, he missed with a number of his dilemmas, and I was able to use bonus points to fuel a two mission win.

Round 4VidiianDan HammanFW (+93)
Dan was playing Vidiians in the Alpha quadrant. It was a design I was completely unfamiliar with. The play of the game occurred when he Cytherians my Enterprise. Fortunately, I drew WNOHGB the following turn -- netting me 15 easy points. Dan, meanwhile, was making a break for my cleared Metaphasic Shielding Test. But the WNOHGB let me beat him there by a turn, and I was able to get two other missions for the win.

Closing Thoughts
I was pleasantly surprised how well my deck played. I mentioned multiple times that Continuing Mission plays a lot like 2E -- so I had a good point of reference in terms of deck ratios. Big thanks to the 1E design team for making TNG which is really easy for guys like me to pick up and get exposed to the game.
