Golden Age Bajorans |
Introduction |
I decided to play Bajorans in this tournament since they have the most draws (Morn, Return Orb, Renewal Scroll, and Cargo Runs), best ways to get a lot of people and ships out (Chamber of Ministers, Bajoran Civil War, Quark's Bar, Docking Ports, and Hidden Fighter), and best ways to score some bonus points(Return Orb to Bajor, Kivas Fajo). I also included some Phasers and Disruptors to defend DS9 and my personnel. |

Round 1 | | Johan Skoglund | FW (+72) |
Scox was playing a Fed/Card deck with Central Command for some free plays. I seeded my DS9 making Scox discard his Terok Nor and his only draw mechanism. Scox tried to report some personnel to DS9 to stop me form getting my Morn draws, but my deck was off to a fast start and I played Neela downloading one phaser then got a rifle from a latinum download. I battled and killed his personnel on my station. I then solved Relocate Settlers getting my Orbs and returned them to Bajor. Scox managed to get one mission solved, but lost some points from Lack of Prep and Higher the Fewer, then was stopped by Dead End. I got out Kivas Fajo and solved 2 more missions to put me at 100 for the win. |

Round 2 | | Matthew Zinno | MW (+33)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Commdecker was plaiyng a Cardie deck with a Nor to Process Ore and Central Command for some free plays. Commdecker started by playing NA Nav to my Cargo Bay and Elim to my and getting a heavy ship out and staffed. I got off to a faster start though and beat back his ships and personnel enough to get a decent crew together and go for Relocate Settlers. I hit Sleeper Trap and Commdecker downloaded some Cardies to my station killing my personnel. I solved the mission getting my Orbs with Starry Night. Commdecker then commandeered my station, so I decided to abandon it and go for a space mission. I tried to redshirt through and lost 10 points to Lack of Prep. I returned both Orbs to Bajor scoring 20 points, then got out Kivas Fajo for another 10. Commdecker solved one mission but got stopped at the homeworld and lost some of the points to Lack of Prep/Higher the Fewer. Neither of us could get through the dilemmas to solve another mission leaving the score at 56-28. |
Chris got lucky with two early HFs for interceptors, which ambushed my Kraxon On its way to attack him at the FTP. I killed a pilot (opaka), and limped home to repair. He also had GPL out early (1r , cargo runs, and Morn), and bought guns. ds9 was at one end of the spaceline (I was at the other, with COM/FTP in the middle), so I got my commandeering plans ready. I reported Elim and Zef'no there, but before I dl'd Galen, leeta arrived with the guns, and killed them both. Chris tried a mission at the location of ds9, and hit Sleeper Trap so I dl'd a force to the bar to kill Morn and leeta (discard 2, oops). And with his people occupied with the mission, I docked the Trager at FTP to kill Gint.
The mission attempt got stopped (by clan people; remember Opaka?), and next turn they returned to ds9 to attack my party, again with those guns.
I flew the Trager there To rescue them, and after processing zef'no back into the deck, I dl'd him, reported Galen, and commandeered through the sisko 197. Still, that didn't get me points, so my other guys started red shirting. I lost a guy to aphasia and 10 to LOP, but cleared some things including one down to a dead end. Chris solved RelSett @ds9 for starry night (2 orbs), and used them to score another 30 (ROTB and Kivas). The Trager battled more to slow him down; it docked at TN, and I dl'd a freighter to bring the people back to help with my missions, and on the final turn I solved Kressari (+5 gun), but got stopped elsewhere by Flaxian assassin. If I had been able to pass it, I could have returned to the dead end mission for the win. Final score 56-23. |

Round 3 | | Meinhard S. Rohr | FW (+89) |
Stefan was playing and interesting deck with all space missions and 5 Badlands region missions. He had an Empok Nor, regular Nor, and a Fed Outpost with a Fed/Baj treaty seeded. With all those 5 span missions I was already expecting to get hit with Cytherians or Conundrum at the space missions. I hit an Edo Probe at Relocate Settlers and expecting Dead End I chose not to continue. Luckily I drew into 2 hidden fighters and got out 3 other ships pretty quickly, so I tried to redshirt through one of my space missions and got hit with Conundrum. I built up my crew some and got through 2 space missions in one turn. Stefan's deck was a little slow and he built up a crew, but got hit by Friendly Fire at 2 missions. I was at 62 points, so I went for Relocate Settlers got my orbs and scored 10 points with Kivas Fajo before Stefan could get a mission solved. |

Round 4 | | J | FW (+30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
I am a little worried going into this game knowing that J likes to play Bajorans, and I don't think my deck would do too well against a mirror deck. It turns out that J is playing Cardassians with Cargo runs though. I am off to a fast start getting out Morn and starting cargo runs on the first turn with a free Jovis and Kivas Fajo. J is off to a little bit of a slow start having to Ops download to get a ship since he isn't drawing one. I get out Kasidy Yates and another freighter to do some quick cargo runs and draw through my deck. So I build up a crew pretty quickly and solve Relocate Settlers to get my orbs putting me at 40 with Kivas Fajo. J gets stopped by a Friendly Fire at Kresari and then tries at Search for Survivors, but gets stopped by his own Scientific Method. I return both orbs to Bajor putting me at 60, then go solve Refuse Immigration putting me at 90 (-5 for a Hazardous Duty). I win at Dabo putting me at 96. J gets 2 space missions that the Firendly Fire runs out at putting him at 70 points, but he can't draw into some science to get past his own Scientific Method. I don't want to rely on a probe for the win, so I go to Bajor and put together 2 crews getting past the dilemmas there for the win. |
Other than the fact that we were playing different affiliations, this was a mirror match-up. Both Chris and I chose Cargo run decks with Cardasian and Bajoran Regions.
The game was essentially quite close and came down to one mistake by me in the seed phase (from my point of view). Chris and I had two shared missions, I put real dilemmas at each, but at the one which I intended to solve I put In the Pale Moonlight as the final wall (a walk for Cardies) and at the other I put Scientific Method. However, I again forgot that the Nor can't seed at a Bajor region mission. This put my Nor at the mission without ITPM and with SM. It came down to me not being able to get the Sceince to bust my own wall before Coyle won. |
