Union Jack Sleeves for the Invader from Distant Lands |
Introduction |
I built (netdecked) most players decks so I tried to make things fair by playing something that hasn't come pre-tuned by the Internet. Zero Hour brought some fun new battle cards, so I built an engagements deck that uses The Dominion Will Prevail and Delta Pavonis to make "solving" progress while still doing battle.
5 players, at the start of the day we said we'd play 4 rounds so that everyone plays everyone. Unfortunately time was such that the people who were keen for more rounds had to leave after round 3. |
|
Round 1 | | Bye | BY (0) |
Bye. Boo. Everyone else played to true ties, which made the 4 points from the bye very strong. |

Round 2 | | Robin Caddie | MW (+35) |
Robin is the other exception to the netdeck rule - he prefers his own creations. He's been honing a finely tuned starfleet solver that I thought would be a problem for my dilemma pile. And there's the whole, "you brought battle? Fine, I'll lost some people then play some more and SOLVE MISSIONS while you're NOT SOLVING MISSIONS" angle. But I got a pretty good draw and managed to land Gomtuu + 2x Precise Attack on his first attempt with 6-7 people going to their space graves. Founder Instigator stopped him from getting the +10 starfleet HQ bonus at his space mission - crucial for the 5 point difference at time. |

Round 3 | | Markus Glatz | MW (+40) |
DS9 Commons is what I've been testing my deck against all month. It's pretty even. Markus started with planet so I didn't go for ship destruction. Instead The Dominion will Prevail filled up Space Stakoron and Delta Pavonis. I did those two for space-space (a bit risky) because Teplan Prime only had one dilemma under it when my ships' range forced me to choose. On his last turn he had one Planet mission and was attempting at space for a MW(-1). A big crew stopped by my second Outclassed of the game kept me in front. |

Closing Thoughts |
Ended after 3 rounds by popular vote - but not necessarily by what was "good" for the standings. Myself and Patrick (round 1 and 3 byes) were in front of Robin who had no bye - not a great situation. However I did have a MW against Robin and Patrick tied with him in round one so maybe not completely unfair. |
