Introduction |
I love playing Borg as not only do they play in a way no other affiliation plays, but their methods and stratagies are so diverse. (Oh, and also that it's fun being the bad guys)
This time I went for a variant on my 12 space deck by changing it from an assimilation deck to a straight solver using Harness Particle 010.
Combining my classic stalling combos with high range for the opponent would allow me time to complete 3 Objectives for the win. |

Round 1 | | Mark | FW (+45)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
A good thing I didn't go for assimilation! Mark was playing Kazon (an affiliation I haven't been against yet) so it was interesting to see how they play. Especially with their new toy: Voyager.
Unfortunatly my space missions were Alpha Quadrant so i couldn't seperate his missions. He came across my Micro/Linguistic combo halting a mission for FIVE turns! he eventually completed grabbing something rather unexpected: Receptacle Stones. This worried me a little when he played it on my ship as he went straight for space and damaged my only Tactical Cube via Gomtuu. One more hit and I would have been locked out. Fortunatly I had Four of nine, a Borg Viniculum and the CUNNING 12 Queen, meaning I was safe from Subspace Shockwave and Ankari Spirits. Meanwhile, I went straight for my Objectives one after the other securing a FW (I'm gonna try out those stones one day though)Kazon are definatly competative and you'll no doubt encounter a Kazon deck from me in the near future. |
Round 1 - vs sexecutioner:
The Alpha Quadrant spaceline was composed of 12 universal missions named Space. Thank goodness I was playing an unassimilatable affiliation in a different quadrant.
I seeded the Artifact a bit far away at Acquire Technology (left-hand side of the DQ, with Kazon Conference between it and Liberation). I moved Voyager over there on the second turn, beamed an Away Team down and moved away on the third. Microbrain stopped Lagren, Crossroads stopped Ril, and Linguistic Legerdemain hit. Damn, that's a countdown of 5!
With Ocular Implants, Niall came over to the mission closest to his starting location that had only one dilemma under it (the three missions on each end off the spaceline had 2 dilemmas each, the other 6 missions had one each). He used the Implants to see Conundrum. Rats.
I sent the redshirts to Kazon Conference, Edo Probe (and Mission Debriefing).
Niall got his HP010 out, moved to the next mission to reveal a Personal Duty, then realised he couldn't get back.
His next turn, he scouted, getting past Conundrum.
I got to the other side of Liberation, past Corner Enemy Ship, and attempted Combat Training. Dead End.
Omega Particle's countdown was due to expire, and Mr Cutioner probed. I was hoping for a bad probe, but alas it was a good one (+30). Had it been bad, Niall would have been out of the game, which would be less fun.
I came back and attempted Liberation, hit an Edo Probe. No point in continuing, Linguistic Legerdemain was due to expire.
I came back, solved Acquire Technology (+35), got the Receptacle Stones.
With the Edo Probes gone, I let the redshirts at Liberation continue. They got hit by a Lack Of Prep (-10 =25).
The next HP010 came out. The mission was scouted, Personal Duty was got through.
I brought some more people to Liberation, got through Lack Of Prep, Combo Scow hit. No females for the Love Interest.
I managed to move the thing, come back and solve. Hogan was stopped on the planet, so I had to use Seska (+30 =55).
I strategically started moving ships.
With a Transwarp Conduit, the Borg ogled at the dilemma under the next mission (Lack Of Prep), then came back and probed for the Particle. Queen (+60 =90).
I played Receptacle Stones, and moved the crews around. Voyager stayed out of harm's way at Combat Training (between the Space missions), the Kazon Warship took one mission and a Fighter took the other.
The Warship passed Gomtuu Shock Wave (the Tactical Cube didn't, and conveniently moved to his next mission location). The Cloud hit the Warship, but not the Cube.
The Fighter hit The Arsenal Divided, but didn't make it through.
Mr Cutioner played his Outpost, got A Change Of Plans for the next Harness Particle, and got through Lack Of Prep.
I sent the Fighter to continue where the Warship left off, it fell afoul of Subspace Shock Wave.
I drew into Chakotay, the first of Chuckles, Traveler and Surprise Party to show up this game. That was kinda painful.
Niall got a successful probe for HP010 (+60 =150).
Tough game. Well played, was fun. Given how easily Borg can cheat through dilemmas (skill-sharing, dilemmas no applying or having alternate easy requirements), I don't really like the watering-down of combos that 12 Space/HP010 provides. But I'm not going to fault anyone for using it, good play. Also, on reflection, I really should have put the Combo Scows where he would encounter them.
Final score: 150 to sexecutioner, 55 to me. |

Round 2 | | Stuart Marsh | FL (-100) |
Stu.... Stu...... Stu...... Another lock out deck no doubt. Crafty Stu was TNG Romulans and got out the Decius and a TNG Cardie ship, both souped up with WEAPON enhancements. By turn 3 he used the Maximum firepower/Crimson Forcefield combo destroying my only ship. Unfortunatly before I could say 'I concede' I realised I had to wash my hair. The next thing I know, there was a huge drug bust in my house so I had to rush away to flush all my meth and smack down the toilet before the police could get to them, then I realised I had a hooker in the basement so I had to get rid of her too. However when I got to the basement my flatmate was dressed as Spock snorting drugs off her *&@. So I grabbed my plastic Bat'leth and decided to take the fuzz head on. my cry of glorious battle turned into a bitchy scream of pain as the police tasered me to the ground, so I had to spend the night in jail, sharing a cell with Tony Todd (who started going all Candyman/Karon on me) and James Spader (who was naked) Sorry bout that Stu, I promise I'll formally concede next time. (Damn drugs and Hookers!) |

Round 3 | | Adam Warpinski | FW (+65) |
First time playing Adam. After a nice wee talk bout politics we got on with the game, he was TNG Feds (if only I was assimilating)he was using CM and Temporal Shifting as draw engines. I'm glad he didn't use it on me, as it wouldv'e buggered up my downloading juggernaught. He managed to get a mission in for 35 but had to expend huge resources to get there and complete it. Plenty of time for myself to use my Occular Implants to scan the single dillemas under the space and complete my 3 010's, a pleasure playing you dude. BORIS JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!! |
