Doctor Sulan and his bag of space AIDS.... |
Introduction |
Right! Regionals.... After barely winning last years event, I knew I had to up the game here. I expected to see everything; Speed solvers, bettle decks, lockout decks and got plenty of them in spades. I refined my Vidiian/Delta (VD) Space Herpes deck with defenses like Inhibitors, Armour, Kurlain, Computer Crash and the usual Delta thingys like Dauntless and Kes. |

Round 1 | | Paddy Tye | MW (+5)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
First up was Paddy, who was playing an EE/Baj Resistance combo. During the seed phase I anticipated City of Bahla so I placed my Dilemmas under the Baj icons in the REVERSE order, so if Paddy tried to attempt them, he would encounter them in the order they should be in. Paddy got a great opening hand and so did I. It was essentially a race. Paddy had the advantage of Geordies eyes but it was not enough as time was called and we finished 105-95.... |
Very close game with Niall - we both solved 3 missions and The Cloud and Spaceborne Entity damaged both his ships so he was left limping around with RANGE 5 most of the game. I'd gotten You Are A Monument out in advance and of his 2 Alpha missions, one was shared (so had like 5 or 6 dilemmas under it) and one had Gantt and a Transport Inhibitor sat on it. Bwah-ha-ha! Unfortunately Niall's damn Altonian Brainteasers kept me from getting any bonus points from my mission specialists, and I'd lost 10 points from a Lack of Prep when I sent a small crew with Winn Adami to clear my way past an In The Pale Moonlight. I ended up on 95 and Niall on 105 when time was called. Feels weird losing when I only needed 5 points and Niall needed 35! Great game though, and enjoyable as always. |

Watched some dudes play Warhammer. These guys were nuts! They were doing Ass-Charges with their huge monster thingys into other monsters swords and drills. |

Round 3 | | Danny Nuttall | FL (-65) |
THE TITLE MATCH! After defeating him at last years regionals I knew he'd have something FMO-shaped up his sleeve.
Seeing we were in different quadrants, it was a solver race, I started building up my guys while Danny fired at Empok getting 5 points and 2 extra draws a turn. I started on Liberation and got hit by Land Eel, no problem, tried again next turn and passed it only to encounter that dreaded Ferengi Ambush.... It's a good thing I saved my Computer Crash for this occasion. Walzed through and targeted my Delta Space mission. I struggled slightly to get through it, (Arsenal/Strict Dress Code/Gomtuu) but had the skills in my hand to complete it next turn. unfortunatly Danny had recovered from a well sexecuted Hull Breach/Maglock combo, had over 50 points and solved two missions on the same turn for the win. That FMO deck is the best deck out there, our game lasted 5/6 turns. Well done good sir! a well earned win. |

Round 4 | | Kevin Jackson | FW (+50) |
Another race, this time with TNG feds. Kev gave me a taste of my own medicine early in turn 2 with a well placed Brain Teser on my liberation, forcing me to complete 4 missions as Crell ate out my nav specialist. My guys were just reporting too quickly, I got hit with Emergant on my Dauntless which slowed me down a touch, but just kept attempting missions aggresivly. Eventually I finally attempted my first Alpha mission of the tourney; Evade Borg Vessel. Got hit with a Trauma/Scientific/Unscientific combo, disabling Seven and taking out another science, leaving me with two left. Once my personnel got stopped by the dilemma I used Vic Fontaines download to get another Science and solve next turn for the win. |

Round 5 | | Stuart Marsh | MW (+70)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
A chance at revenge! After a humiliating defeat against his Decius deck earlier in the year, I knew I had to watch myself with this menace. Stu was playing Rouge Borg and androids and he meant business! On turn 2 he bagged Empok Nor to download every weapon in the goddamn universe! Meanwhile I started early busting as much Dilemmas as I could on different missions while he built up his forces. I attempted at the end of my spaceline and got hit by Pirates and a Whale Probe. He then made his move.... He Slipstreamed to me with his cardplay, prompting me to SD the Gift via Kes. I regrouped with the Equinox as well and attacked his assimilator. Next turn he got Crosis and co, Strapped the 5million rifles onto their cocks, and fired cyber-disrupter jizz at my guys on the Dauntless while I returned Equinox to hand. He went back to the alpha Quadrant and it was pretty much a solving environment from then on, Time out with 3 missions under my belt. Enjoyable game sir. |
Niall was playing a fast Delta/equinox deck with Vidiaans, with lots of free plays (Ocampa, Talaxians, home away from home, vidiann solidarity) and some Borg. In a fast paced couple of turns I had acquired my Empok Nor and Weapons and Niall had cleared out Liberation, with a sacrificial crew getting blown up with The Arsenal: Divided and Kazon Bomb. He then went to attempt a space mission at the end of his space line and was stopped again by the Ossarian Pirates, The Whale Probe combo. I decided to Quantum Slipstream to that end of the delta space line and strike, but as I announced my Beam action he used Kes to [DL] The Gift and move away. As I had range 0 I couldn't move after him. Next turn he plays a U.S.S. Dauntless and moved over to battle my with two ships, neither of us had a BB he damaged me and I damaged the equinox. Next turn I played a Quantum Slipstrem Drive to bring a D'deridex over. This forced Niall to STP his Equinox to hand and I beamed over and finished off 6 personnel of the Dauntless. After this I slipstreamed back to the Alpha quadrant, and started attempting missions, but made two silly mistakes. I had encountered Crisis on one attempt, was ready for the second then forgot to place the officer on the ship. Then when I was about to complete I forgot about my own Mission Debriefing and instead of sending only 4 personnel to finnish the now empty mission I sent them all an so they were stopped and and I lost a turn. In the mean time Niall managed to build up again in the Delta quadrant and moved through his 4 missions quickly to score 140 to get past my You are a Monument. Full loss. 140-30

Closing Thoughts |
I like this deck, it can keep up with most solvers, it has defenses against Battle, and above all, it was a fun deck to play while being competative and earning me 2nd place in the regional. had a blast as usual guys! |
