Tournament Report - 2E - European Continentals Day One |

Introduction |
Well,well,well.....time for another epic EC in Vienna.
We tested and considered a lot of different deck choices and anti decks for that tournament. The games would be even harder then the last years, because some of the more casual players wont join us this year,so what to play? Voy 5 space....no,we didnt wanna ride that bullet for 7 games, just because it is the strongest deck in Europe atm. Going with the hard counter then, playing the new Marquis? Sadly I got the playing impression that Marquis is still to slow to compete with other non Voy solvers like the Bajorans or Klingons plus I havent a lot of fun playing a "lock" deck. Going all in with a Bajor micro team deck then? Well, that was an option, but again I dont like the concept of micro attempting. So I considered to go with my "allrounder" solver, the past Klingons, putting an extra ETU in to be save against Marquis consume kill pile decks. Also it is "really " easy to play, going over 7 rounds and is still joyful to play. And that is the main point for my deck decision while road tripping 800 kilometers to a tournament full of strong friendly trek players,I wanna have fun there. |

Round 1 | | Earned Bye | EB (+100) |
Trying to get rid of the "zombie mode" |

Round 2 | | William Hoskin | FL (-100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Gumbo was served very "hot" that day, strong JUJU too.....Some lucky/unlucky random dilemma picks...0-100 with warp 9. So we had some time to continue our conversation from the Biermeister. |
Sacsha is always a great guy to play against and was playing a Klingon solver doing 40 point missions then burning the extra points to either speed himself up or slow down the opponent, sadly for him I got out and got my space missions very quickly and after that there was no stopping them at the two Delphic planets. I was able to stop Sasha crew because I knew them all (except the Worf) from the deck I had played in Florida. |
|
Round 3 | | Michael Albrecht | FW (+35) |
Looking forward to have another one with Michael, always interesting games.
Sadly he hadnt the best deck draws at the beginning, but managed it,almost insanely, to compensate this with his dilemma play. In the end he coudnt catch up with the tribble breeding Klingons after I have played 2 At what Costs. But I liked his SF version a lot,got new input there. |
|
|
Round 4 | | Stefan Slaby | MW (+1) |
First Voy of the day,and as always I knew Stefan would destroy one of my ships, kind of a traditon. Fortunately i managed to play my At what costs the next turn and a free Tacking to have a fresh restart with 7 Klingons. Somehow I managed to stop him at his Caretaker,4th mission to solve. |
|
|
Round 5 | | Benjamin Liebich | FW (+35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
That has also to happen,a kind of sad tradition that we have to play against each other each time at those tournaments.
Uncle Benjen was playing his micro bajoran solvers, the one I love so much....
Coin flipping outcome garanteed.
Ben managed to stopped me very efficient,as he does.
He got ahead with 2 solved missions, solving his space within the first attempt. One magic dilemma draw saved me some time, getting an Insurrection and a Temporal Conduit out. Otherwise he would have won the coin flip. |
Why does this always have to happen? It seems like we just can't avoid facing off at high level tournaments.
As our games do these days, this one came down to plain, simple luck. We might as well have Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spocked it out.
We both knew each other's decks inside out from the countless hours of testing that we did.
So in the end it came down to the proverbial coin toss. I stopped the wrong guy and had to swallow a Temporal Conduit which derailed an otherwise great run that I had.
Please let's not do that again! |
|
Round 6 | | Tobias Rausmann | FW (-15) |
Honestly I even cant remember to play that game with Tobias, maybe my zombie mode strikes again while realising to play against Voy once more. I think I managed to stop his caretaker attempt also, was his 4th mission to solve too. Very close solving game like the one against Stefan. |
|
|
Round 7 | | Jan Rohacek | FL (+100) |
Well, I will remember that one for sure, because I have to face the whole tribe of Chakotays very early in the game, also the lovely combination of HB and Shran. So....0-100 with warp 9.9 |
|
|
Closing Thoughts |
Had some intense games, that nearly caused short time insanity, especially the one against Benjamin and 2 out of the 3 Voy games,so close........
I think my choose was right, going Klingon solver (except for my Worf pick,I will follow the advice of Chancellor Will on that one) Thx for all the games. |
