| After a successful test win Friday night, I brought my Discard/Tally/Masaka deck to the Regional. The mass discard deck, inviting Toxins in hopes of hitting Tallys always seemed like a fun concept deck, and it's been entertaining in the past, but it can get really bogged down if the round goes too long, and every Toxin draws you four or five cards per. With the addition of Masaka, though, the deck can take hit after hit, get some points in the pile and/or pick up some Tallys, and when the hand gets too bloated, Masaka to even things out. Once ahead, an early round Masaka also has the potential to shorten rounds to limit the amount of points others can catch up with. I used all of these strategies at least once over the course of the regional, going out twice, and Tallying a ton for the win. |
