Tournament Report - 1E - European Continentals Day One |

Borg, Jaeger und DAS Bier zum Fruehstueck... |
Introduction |
I was very eager for the 1E event. Since I knew I'd suck at 2E (what I actually did :) ), I had put great effort in preparing for 1E (thankfully 1E emphasizes construction and is somehow forgivable about bad play if construction is sufficient, in which I'm better than in in-game-decisions ;) ), designing a solid Resistance/Fed-OS/Office of the President for Day 1 and a hardcore-interaction deck for Day 2. Unfortunately I took the wrong dilemmas for my Day1-Deck with me and the hotel's computer didn't allow me printing dilemmas needed, so I was forced to play my Day2-Deck, which aims for modified wins, on day 1. Damn, stupid me :) . How the deck works, is described in my post for EC. Please help to improve it :) . |

Round 1 | | Peter Ludwig | ML (-70) |
DAS LUDWIG supported by the Jaeger-crew ( :) ) right in round 1. I got to knew Peter during online play recently. Class of a player and during our online game he literally vaporized me, although the outcome of the game was depending on a ruling I'm still seeking a [green]responce to (stay tuned for report and decklist ;) ). Nonetheless the outcome of that game, even with a ruling in my favour, would most likely mirror the outcome of this game ;) . Peter played the same deck as during our online game: A rock-hard-solid Maquis-Resistance-Solver with Handshake as drawing engine and 6 (!) Computer Crashes, for which my deck was not actually adequately prepared. Peter started the game reporting personnel and the Crashes caused me a headache since I needed to flip QIR and get Deyos round 1, delaying my strategy even further since I had to fetch Res-Q and playing Rods again for the Khan-download, Despite me being able capturing people after turn 2, Peter managed to complete 2 missions before my disruptive engine was actually working. Eventually it did and I cleared the table of Maquis shenanigans but was by no means able to score any points from missions, so Peter won modified and taught me, that Bynars is a must-have in any interactive deck (never saw them in Kevin's Dominion deck ;) ) . |

Round 2 | | Stuart Marsh | MW (+35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Stuart is a highly interactive and innovative player, always coming up with strange lock-out combinations never been thought of and somehow the inspiration for my deck with his perfect pre-General Quarters-Tent: Civil War-Khan-Build. As Peter I've played Stuart online (despite its flaws Lackey is just a great thing) with mixed results and got crushed at least one time. In this game I was very lucky: Won the coin-toss and during turn 1 captured Stuart's Klingon AMS for a Khan on turn 2. Stuart's deck was obviously aiming for heavy armada with Ready Room Door + Officer Exchange Program + countless ships with matching commander. And the engine was impressive: A fetched IKS Chang plus matching commander and a champsign-exchange for the Bortas, all on 2 (!) copies of Engage Cloak, forcing me to dl all defensive cards with Ablative Armor and Plasmadyne Relay. Could've dealt with one cloaked ship due to Tachyon (which I never saw in Kevin's deck :) ) but not with 2 ships, so I decided to ly in wait starting cautious attempting while possibly luring Stuart out of his safe position for striking. But he did not do me the favor. Being stalled at one mission due to Dead End with 5 points from Victory is Life I luckily managed to complete another mission for 35 points, forcing Stuart out after time was called. And he did: Uncloaked and flew over to a mission where I luckily stopped Gowron, who was important with a 1 Tribble, although I might add: A second chance would've been given to me with an Armus-Dilemma picking him. Nonetheless I was lucky, especially in gonig first. |
This was a real challenge of a game. Seb seeded only 1 dilemma and piles of hidden agendas... I knew what was coming! First turn he had a Dominion Warship, Deyos a hand weapon and beamed over to Captured! my mission specialists. He then planted a 1 Tribble on one of my outposts. I knew that if I followed my normal play and downloaded Gowron to a Facility he would not last long! So over the next few turns I managed to get out teh Chang and stay hidden under Engage Cloak and used a Holodeck Door to get some '45 Dom perignon and get the Bortas and then get Gowron. Then while under Engage cloak I build up my personnel knowing that if I attempted any missions I would be stopped and captured - oh and then he Prisoner Exchanged for Khan and started to play Ceti Eels! The one saving grace was I had tow powerful ships so he had to be vary careful and defensive in the way he moved his ship. He found my dilemmas tough going and after several mission attempts on his 40 pointer then hit my dead end. He scored 5 points through a victory is life and then 30 points from Transport Crash Survivors. With time almost up I moved to the empty mission requiring Gowron and Biology but when I beamed my away team down Gowron was stopped by a tribble! I checked for other requirements but was short on integrity due to the effects of 10 Tribbles! Time was called 35-0

Round 3 | | Rafael Palenta | MW (+15) |
Rafa played Ent-E - Sona - New Arrivals with some easy missions, which worried me got first turn. Luckily for me he didn't fetch the personnel needed for an early attempt and stayed within range. So I could move in, do the capture and subsequently download Khan. Rafa kept me busy, reporting consistantly people, making me always travel over and using Captured and Ceti Eel. Luckily for me I managed to steal Analyze Radiation with Eeled personnel for 35 points making dumb me feeling secure. Rafa played Parallax. Yeah, that was cool. 5 points. And another one: Was it cool, that it was cool :) ? Of course it was :) . And that chain continued to 20 points for Rafa, who played Rescue Captives (another one I was not prepeared for, luckily Eeled all the Non-Alignds leaving only few captives back) and went off for another mission. And again I got lucky with Armus-Dilemma, ending the attempt and finishing the away team off for a modified win. |

Round 4 | | Thomas Schneider | ML (-30) |
That was a great game, although I lost it. I was not prepared for Mirror Quadrant either (never thought of being it played during a Continentals, 3 games out of four where I learned and forgot something :) ). Thomas went first and one turn up, which extended to 2 for me, since Quantum ate my range in the Mirror Quadrant. Fortunately for me, the loss of turns didn't matter at first: I managed to capture and turn into Khan subsequently while being lucky killing with Armus important skills from Thomas thus denying an early lead while scoring points from Victory is Life for the lead. And now poor play begun: Didn't scorch away Thomas' hand while I had the chance to, missed playing my last one Tribble on his last ship, feeling stupidly secure. Thomas, who had various easy-to-solve-missions, played, although playing 1E seldomly, reasonably and very clever (where others would shout: cheese! and concede in bad blood), he cleared 1 Tribble of one ship, moved through, endured upcomming interaction, just to report Ezri (MM) thanks to a fetched Crew Reassignemt earlier, solved a mission, putting me under pressure. Time was called and I had one last turn. My attempt failed in the end to Fighting Words. Thomas won, always focusing on his plan, not being deceived (like me :) ) to Tactical Disadvantage (to use a 2E-frame :) ). |

Closing Thoughts |
Performed poorly, but it was great fun, had a great time. Congrats to DAS LUDWIG again. |
