Introduction |
mr. subrocket and i prepared by going through the academy decks we could find in the tournament and deckbuilder areas from recent years... and i went with delphic starfleet. |
|
Round 1 | | Barry Windschitl | FL (-55)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
decent game against an old pal. i was super stoked when i dropped stopped his attempt at kressari with a lone guess whos coming to dinner to stop one of his two treachery dudes with diplomacy. but then i underestimated a nec ex-greater deeds combo that whiffed when he could pass both requirements with his dinosaurs. close but no e-cigar... thanks for the dvelas, dude! |
this did not go as I had expected. Frid packing damaged Archer meant he had his gamesmanship on his side, as well as the ability to really mess up my dilemma combos. Luckily, after a slow start at Kressari, I was able to get the right guys out to bust through combos, unstop, and repeat. I also got a very good anti-Archer card to lead off a Greater Needs (aka-Dirty Deeds). The slug-fest ended in a very unexpected win for me. Great Game, Frid! |

Round 2 | | Rylee Johnson | FW (+100) |
first game ever against rylee. a gracious opponent. he had a slower start than i did. we had a rules clarification on paper moon that helped me figure out that dilemma finally. and i think there was plenty of machine gun fire noise behind us with that crazy aerosmith game... |

Round 3 | | Jeremy Benedict | FL (-30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
i was on the ropes all game. zillions of counters and i didn't have insurrection or any aquisition for those awesome "ferengi" dilemmas. my own dilemma pile was obviously not tailored towards orange, either... as i didn't expect to see them in the format. i hung in there to get two missions with some under the last one, iirc, but it wasn't meant to be. awesome meta call by the "ref two-point-oh" (who i kinda thought would play cardassian). congrats on the tourney win, jer! |
Frid was playing a Starfleet deck with Damaged crew and MACO (very thematic) so I knew I wasn't going to have to worry about Acquisition, only having enough counters over time since he could play to the Enterprise directly and easily move between missions at will within the Region. I got rid of Archer with He Wasn't Nice to ensure that my backup random selection dilemmas would still work. Getting the first space mission changed up his mission plan since he wasn't able to bank the extra points he needed to get around a Causal from his first mission. I got caught twice not being able to play the right wall but was able to make the most of a Polywater at full price to cut him to 2 short of the Cunning on one of his late missions. Came down to the wire and was a great match against a tough opponent. |
|
Round 4 | | Steve Nelson | FW (+40) |
haven't played steve for a while so this was good. i had tested klingon small-costers a bit in preparation for the event, so I knew which of my dilemmas would hit. damaged archer gave steve a couple of fits mid-game and helped me push through the missions. great game, nelson! |

Closing Thoughts |
academy ftw! i wish our regional was gonna be in the format. so much fun, i can't wait to play it again. playing free megaman arcade games at this venue didn't compare with playing at fantasy flight, however. looking forward to the mn regional in a couple months. back to the lab... |
