I Thought We Were in the Trust Tree... in the Nest |
Introduction |
MN Land's annual charity gig went into overdrive this year 2 months removed from NYE in the form of a 1E Voyager sealed extravaganza inside TBG headquarters. Huge props to T2E Legends Tommy Wallbanger and Rigg-kishi for supplying the product, and to the 7 attendees that collectively blew the roof off the venue. |

Round 1 | | Jason Tang | ML (-5) |
JTG was looking to the Vidiians, and quickly threw my entire game plan into disarray via a seeded Fair Play. A mid-game red shirt attempt at Restore Victims with my free reporting Talaxian cost me 10 points due to a perfectly placed Lack of Prep, and ultimately the game in this timed out, laugh filled affair. ML 25-20. |

Round 2 | | Dan Van Kampen | FW (+70) |
Lethal Weapon was angling on a shoot first ask questions later mentality, but couldn't find an opportunity to fire on my continuously landed Kazon shuttle. Tripping his own mis-seeds proved very costly, as I was then given a free ride in what ended up being a warp speed encounter. FW 100-30. |

Round 3 | | James Heaney | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Heavy Metal was utilizing a Kazon / Vidiian combination, but was locked down early thanks to Implication and outgunned shortly thereafter. With him grounded and digging for a new ship, I swiped a pair of missions in rapid succession before solving Reinitialize Warp Reaction for the win. FW 100-0.

My draw deck killed me here. Kris seeded his outpost at the same mission as I did. I cleared something on the 30-point Nekrit space mission, then hit Navigational Hazards with 4 Stellar Cart and 0 Navigation. Couldn't draw one, either. Couldn't attempt Prison Break; flew on to Study Interment Site. Kris stranded me using heavy weapons, but no worries -- I had a 10-man team here. Unfortunately, we hit Implication. Fortunately, I had a Quantum Slipstream Drive in hand, so I wasn't really very worried about being stranded. So now I'm drawing for a ship and Navigation OR 3 Diplomacy OR Law. Meanwhile, Kris has free run of the board (stealing Prison Break AND my 30-point Nekrit space mission), but I know that, as soon as I get rolling again, I can wrap up the game very, very fast.
Well, I drew to a Beyond the Subatomic, played it and targeted Ship. The resulting discard killed Magistrate Drang (who was both the 3rd Diplo and the Law) and nabbed me a... Kazon Shuttle, which lacked the range to outrun the Raiders even if there was any point in flying it out. Never found the Navigation. Kris had the board all to himself the rest of the game, and made good use thereof. |

Closing Thoughts |
With 3 copies of Implication I thought I had a good shot at winning this gig, but my lack of attemptable missions and Jason's Fair Play proved to be my undoing. Still, my performance was entirely secondary as we raised another solid contribution for the Domigyay family, which was really what the day's events were all about. |
