Get a Job, Go to College... That All Sounds Overrated |
Introduction |
Following three local renditions of The Original Champion's Challenge, Premiere Only Constructed took the airwaves by storm via the reanimated Return to Farpoint tournament series. While I went to war with my standby Card / Rom concoction, the MVP of this gig was undoubtedly The Original Champion himself. |

Round 1 | | Kenneth Tufts | FW (+65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Toast of the Coast was playing Cardassian, but with a glutton of 2+ cost personnel in hand was comparatively slow out of the gate. After blowing through both of my planets in rapid succession I held him off with a pair of Trabe Grenades before solving Kressari Rendezvous with a 4-Man All Star team. FW 100-35. |
Round one ver's a top tier 2e player who has bene doign this event localy for 3 years running, I did get the hand of my deck purty good and was rollign ok, but my lack of dilemma ability adn a bit of a bad draw startign otu with non of my cheaper personal set me way to far behind and and never recovered. |

Round 2 | | Johannes Klarhauser | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Kaiser was engineering Rom / Kling, but couldn't pick off the right personnel with Kelvan Show of Force as I solved all three missions in one attempt thanks to Comfort Women, Garak, and Shady Resources. Scrambling for points late, I connected with a Pinned Down in a d2 / s2 spot to seal the shutout. FW 100-0. |
Kris really knows the ins and outs of this format. In addition to his experience and skill, the random selections finally also worked to his advantage for a change (Kelvan consistently failing to off the correct person), so what I had hoped to be at least a close fight turned into a blowout win for Kris and a lesson learned for me. |

Round 3 | | Andrey Gusev | FL (-65) |
The Giant Killer was packing Card / Kling, and solved Rescue Prisoners in one shot as I came up empty in a search for Antedean Assassins. Despite being staked to an early lead, he remained stingy with dilemmas and nailed down the win at Quest for the Sword of Kahless by working around an Authenticate Artifacts. FL 100-35. |

Round 4 | | Bye | BY (0) |
The Texas Tornado and I were scheduled for a fourth round showdown, but a prolonged illness forced him to withdraw from the event. Although we have only faced each other once in the past, he is a joy to play against and I hope we get partnered off again sometime soon. |

Round 5 | | Jon Carter | FW (+35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Dr. Death was experimenting with DS9, but lost a trio of personnel on his first attempt and never recovered. Following quick solves on the ground and in the air by side stepping Center of Attention, I walled him off in space with Personal Duty and Aggressive Behavior before earning a free pass at Evacuate Colony. FW 100-65. |

Closing Thoughts |
Despite not actually partaking in this tournament, several of the combatants either drew inspiration from or outright copied Matt Frid's OCC designs. And having fallen victim to these builds a number of times in kitchen table dark matches over the years, I know from experience his Premiere Only creations are without equal. |
