Tournament Report - 2E - Andoria Regional |

I Can't Make Decisions... I'm a President! |
Introduction |
MinnMania 2015 kicked off with easily the toughest tournament to win on The Land of 10,000 Champions circuit, the prestigious 2E Regional. Rather than buy in to the "flavor of the month" hype that is new Dominion, I instead went old school with an achievement themed iteration of my timeless Cardassian Tain build. |
Round 1 | | Ryan Heiberg | MW (+65) |
Hayseed was packing TOS, and held me up for ages at Eliminate Harvesters with a bevy of Chula dilemmas. Returning the favor by stacking two copies of Chula: The Game onto his Mining Survey, Telle & Co. eventually worked their way through Perform Intricate Ritual just as time expired. MW 65-0. |
Round 2 | | Jeremy Huth | FW (+40) |
Hardcore was orchestrating an android creation, but had no answer for an Enabran Tain fueled mission attempt on turn 3. Despite having no event destruction for his early Energize, I played around his cost reduced personnel thanks to Unwanted Guests before nailing down Intercept Renegade to win it. FW 100-60. |
Round 3 | | Mike Harrington | MW (+5) |
The Natural was trying TOS, but was slowed to a crawl by a double shot of Rogue Borg Ambush and Chula: The Dice. Forcing him to burn Sisko on an Uninvited was the game defining moment, as without interrupt prevention I was able to power through a Gomtuu Shockwave and steal one at the wire. MW 65-60. |
Round 4 | | Nat Kirton | FL (-65) |
The Beast from the East was utilizing Voyager, and cruised through Inversion Mystery courtesy of a pair of Chakotay unstops. Unable to use Chula: The Game for the remainder of the match, I narrowly avoided being shut out before he mopped up at Reestablish Neural Cooperative thanks in part to Minuet. FL 100-35. |
Round 5 | | Steve Nelson | FW (+80)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Full Nelson was employing Bajoran, but had no answer for a turn 3 solve of Eliminate Harvesters. With Parek easily rescued from an Arena relocation that fittingly sent him home within the Cardassian Region, a second helping of Chula: The Game at Acquire Illicit Explosives all but sealed his fate. FW 100-20. |
I see Sonsteby's deck and know I am in trouble. I guess correctly that if I don't get Paenol in play to stop all those The Central Command interrupts, I'm dead. By turn 3 he's attempting missions and I'm trying to get a ship which I don't get until turn 6. As predicted, the interrupts unstop his peeps and I get stalled on my attempts since I don't have my earrings in play. FL (100-20) |

Closing Thoughts |
While I had not anticipated to play more than a game or two, finding myself in position to win the event as round 4 began was a silver lining to what was a pretty dark week. Even though I came up short in my upset bid, I am grateful that the game, and the friends who play it, were able to pull me through. |
