First... You Gotta do the Truffle Shuffle |
Introduction |
Act II of our FFG throw down saw 3 founding members of the New Blood added to the mix as the assembled Frozen Chozen turned their collective eyes to OTF. Intent on building towards the 10x TNG property logo achievement, I went to war with the 2-mission win Klingon creation I last ran at King of the Ring back in September. |

Round 1 | | James Heaney | FW (+65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Heavy Metal was co-chairing TNG Romulan, but was gun shy from the onset in what devolved into simply a mission solving race on opposite ends of the space line. Despite getting slowed by "God" and Mission Debriefing, I eventually knocked out Distressed Mission to earn my only 2-mission triumph of the day. FW 100-35. |
Of course, this plan got scuttled when the magic of random selection paired me with Kris. Quite simply, I tried playing this deck as a solver, and, as Kris explained to me after, it isn't fast enough to be a solver. It has to get up in the opponent's face, or it dies. I kept to my end of the spaceline, did some work, but couldn't get it all done fast enough. By the time I recognized that I needed to attack immediately, it was too late: my ships were too far down the spaceline to get there in time. |

Round 2 | | Barry Windschitl | FL (-15)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Genius was looking to the KCA, and slowed me to a crawl as he was all too eager to discard for Handshake. With Dead End locking me out at Expose Covert Supply and Quantum Incursions pinning him down at Disrupt Alliance, he laughed off In the Pale Moonlight in space to steal the come from behind win in overtime. FL 100-85. |
This game came down to the well-thought out placement of my Dead End Combo at his Qo'nos. This kept him from getting a two-mission win with the Genesis Device (or, as we called it, the Genital Device. Niall would be proud), and gave me time to get my schtuff together and power through his combos including YGiI, and QIs. I even destroyed one of his loaded ships with a dilemma combo (Yeah! That hurt a bit. I believe it was the Pagh.). In a late attempt, I ran into Emergency Conversion, which stopped one ship, and, much to my chagrin, I had all of One skill needed on the stopped ship, and all of the Other needed skill on the Regency 1 (oopsie!). This was a close game, that had me cussing out QI quite a bit (Not a fun card). I Honestly didn't think I would beat Kris and one of his Klingon Creations. Over-all, Good Game, Kris. |

Round 3 | | Robert Petersen | FW (+30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The Prodigy was playing Holograms, but had no answer for General Quarters and You Are a Monument. Shortly after losing a solid crew to Subspace Fracture, I cleared a Primitive Culture at Reported Activity and a second helping of Dead End at Seize Freighter to nail down the victory. FW 100-30. |
Legit Klingons with the Pagh move very fast in experienced hands, and a speed race is tough when in the Delta Quadrant. Kris was a bit thrown off by all my shenanigans, but I just couldn't keep up. We were both killing lots of personnel. Kris losing a crew to Subspace Fracture, and I lost nearly all of my non-holograms to a Kazon Bomb. The race to rebuild was lost, but not by much. |

Closing Thoughts |
My reluctance to stray too far from my staple dilemmas appears to have been warranted, as many of my longstanding backups were simply not up to par. Whale Probe seemed to harm my progress just as much as my opponent, and Executive Authorization wouldn't have slowed down anyone who could have faced it on this day. |
