Tournament Report - 2E

RelativityRelativity 1.96.5
Introduction
It's been a while since I've been to a 2E constructed tournament, so I was going into this a little bit rusty. After trying a couple of re-vamps to my Relativity deck (including trying it with the revised guys), I decided to settle on a scheme based around temporal events, and using Naomi Wildman to dance around random selections (and LL Kirk J/ Revised chuckles for other fun shenanigans). It worked better than I thought, but can always use some more finessing. The dilemma pile was pretty much attrition and walls, and had some Really good situational runs.

Round 1TNGJeremy BenedictFL (-30)
This was a close game. I had an early lucky shot with my anti-weenie dilemma setting up a chair shot with WNOHGB sending his cadeticles on a trip. I was able to hold him off based on the Cadets/ weenies Achilles heel of low cost while I plowed at my missions. He eventually got both his bonus point Enterprises, and Tallera set up to sweep POM for 55 points. I ended up getting stopped at my last mission on what would be my last turn (if my turn had gone for 10 more seconds, then I would've had a modified win, but hey). I'm pretty sure I made at least one fatal error that prevented me from getting onto my last mission sooner (IIRC, this was the game where I allowed RevChuckles to be stopped when he was my last of a needed skill). Jeremy was then able to get his win on his last turn after time was called.

Round 2MaquisSteve NelsonFW (+100)
This was the game I thought I'd end up conceding. I've played this deck before, and got both of my ships stranded in the gamma quadrant by Steve. That memory combined with knowing this was Maquis made me go into this game with wary spirit. That and the fact that I was waiting for him to play Bio-Weapon one my One planet mission (oops!). Lucky for me, that never happened. He did use early Cascades on my Naomi Wildman (who I soon brought in with Juel), and a copy of Simmons (so I used the second copy to fuel the replicate on TT). I got a decent crew together and headed to NXC for my first attempt. He tried to set up his "Free trip to the Gamma Quadrant", but Ducane graciously declined the offer (and would steadfastly do so again later in the game). Steve got out to IMA soon after I locked up this mission, and I promptly hit him with a NecEx in an attempt to snag Tuvok (who died), and BoosterYates (who he saved). On a later attempt, I'd get him with a Greater Needs, which, with one ship out at that time, sent him into back up mode (try to blow up my ship). After that, I pretty much danced my way through my last two missions, dodging both ship destruction, free trips, and Bio Weapons. He was a bit annoyed that his deck couldn't get him through the game, but I just told him "Hey, you've kicked my ass pretty much every time I've faced this deck, so don't feel bad." I could at least walk away from the day happy that I survived this nasty deck.

Round 3FerengiNat KirtonFL (-65)
This game wasn't as tight as my others, but it was still entertaining watching Nat's 'Ginars work. He had one turn where he got up to 36 counters (the last game I played aginst this deck, I think he got over 40), but having used three copies of Treasuered Collectables (Name?) meant I'd hit him with Identity Theft twice later on. During the game, I'd end up making a Huge mistake by not using Naomi to dance past a Captain's Guest (allowing three to get stopped), and costing me an early mission. The game came down to me trying to get by dilemmas while he used boosted and high-cunning peeps to micro-team his missions. Still entertaining to see a 'Ginar deck that doesn't break AURom and the Ligos Extra-turn mission to sneak in an extra turn.

Closing Thoughts
I'm not to down about how this tournament went for me, mainly just because I haven't had much practice, and also because I actually beat the most fearsome deck that was brought. It was great to see the fellow jobbers again, and see the new FF Game Center for the first time (Really nice facility).
