Brocutus Returns: Borg Snatch and Run 2.0 |
Introduction |
At the advising of the Sages of MN, I decided to dust the cobwebs off of the old Borg Assimilator. It turned out that this was a good call. |
|
Round 1 | | Kevin | FW (+95) |
You could have just cut the first 40 minutes off of this game, as we were both sitting and building at our HQs. After nerfing his Anything or Anyone event a couple of times (depsite it possibly getting me an easy assimilation), I decided to go do something, and went for Assimilate resistance with 12 guys. Kevin got three captives who didn't hurt me too much. I soon had my first victim, and the ability to use K&E. Once we got down to the wire, Kevin went for his space missions with 12 peeps each. I got two more victims out of one attempt, and shut it down, then shut down the other one. After that, I closed up the game, and got the win. |

Round 2 | | Kris Sonsteby | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Kris was running his TOS ALC deck, and I was able to hit him hard with a near-complete wipe-out of his away team. After this, it was not much of an issue to solve a space and planet mission for the win with K&E, and get around the corner with OWtB. Good Game Bro. |
The Genius was rocking Borg assimilation, and wiped out an entire away team via Abduction, Reborn, and Unrelenting. Armed with the skills to pass Telepathic Deception from my personnel plus a Knowledge & Experience to side step anything I could toss to get them back, there was simply no slowing him down. FL 100-0. |
|
Round 3 | | Mike Harrington | FL (-40) |
One of my two losses in the qualifiers, Mike had Staffer Sisko and Grav Traps ready to give me fits when the invasion team hit him. The defense hit especially hard when it came time to use K&E to get missions. |
|
|
Round 4 | | John Corbett | FW (+70) |
After an eff-up playing an early TAtV (I drew one too many, so let John randomly select three cards to go to the bottom of my deck; This worked in his favor), I managed to get back into the swing and hit him with a snatch-and-grab for 7 or 8 peeps. I soon came away with the win thanks to assimilation-fueled shenanigans. He played the TNG cards that normally help everyone, but my peeps didn't get to much help from those cards. |
|
|
Round 5 | | Preston Holida | FW (+25) |
This was the game where Preston and I looked around, at the top table to my right, and the lower tables to my left, and asked each other "How the [Eff] did we get here (we were at the second-to-the-top table). I got my crew together and robbed him of enough people to make the win nearly impossible for him. I, on the other hand, easily got the win via making assimilies adapt to work with the Borg. |

Round 6 | | Neil Timmons | FL (-20)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Milled, but I Did get two missions, and 80 points before he finally realized that he needed to Keras Three of Nine into my hand and discard her to stop me from recycling K&Es and OWtBs. I got two of his guys, including one Intel guy to stop Sela from interfering with my hives plans. This was a rough last game that left me more than a little drained.
EDIT: After reading Neil's report, I have to say thanks for the props, it was indeed a Great Game against a great player whom I had only heard about through previous reports. You played like a champ Bro. Great game. |
Ugh. Borg assimilator. I know that deck, I know it rather well. I won Nationals playing that deck, I am very familar with what it can do. But, stick to the plan. Get Gal Gath'thong going, and try to get rid of some of the cards that hurt the worst. He had all of the interrupts in his hand, I could not find a Tal. He also had 3x Annxation Drone in play, I could not find (or download) a Sent Back (which murders all 3 Annexation drones) and he was prepared for my dilemmas with Knowledge and Experience and blew through two missions. but in the end, I made him download and discard 3 of 9, so his deck was not able to get 4 free things back from the discard pile (I think I made him download 3 of 9, then used T'Aluthan to punch her out of the universe... I don't quite remember... because sometimes you have to hit someone with a chair so hard they fall out of the clouds).
Once he was crippled and could not complete his 3rd mission, he just held on and played dilemmas to make sure I could complete my missions in the time allowed. I believe I suffered a welcome dreamer, which at the end doesn't hurt to discard cards, it is much more exciting that it is an overcome dilemma. Barry was a really great guy to play agasint, and darn near had me.

Closing Thoughts |
I honestly didn't think I would get this far. The deck worked well enough, and shows that where assimilation is concerned, I still have the chops. |
