"So tell me where were you, When everything fell down like thunder, I begged you to pull me through. I couldn't get out from under" |
Introduction |
In my quest to get the achievement for "Play all affiliations that appear in both editions", I decided to try out a spin of Justin K's "TNG Borgs and 'Droids". This deck takes a Little getting used to, but I may try it again in the future. Ocular Implants were thrown in just for scouting, which certainly helped in some missions. |

This one came down to a ruling by Kris on his combining both Genesis Device and Earring of Li Nalas on Rescue Prisoners. There's still a question awaiting the word of The Pfti, but it seemed like the timing of it would be an issue. He did something that was interesting for at least one mission: Just put in a bunch of walls that I had to "adapt" to (Not Borg adapt, but get the skills out, and or bring in some more 'Droids).

Barry was TNG borg + Androids. I went first, and my regions were adjacent, so we kept to our own halves. DS9 was at Relocate Settlers. I take three turns to work through a LoveScow/Talosian/Matriarchal combo at Jeraddo. Barry has Mission Debriefing, so I download my artifacts to a separate crew, who immediately place The Genesis Device on Rescue Prisoners. There I overcome Something/DNA Clues, but am stonewalled by Scientific Method.
Meanwhile Barry is going back and forth between Foster New Collective, Investigate Raid, and Amnesty Talks, running into Medical Crisis, Scientific Method, and Navigational Hazards/Emergency Conversion respectively. Also amusing is how I correctly (and ironically) seeded Outpost Raid at Foster New Collective. He's poised to solve his last two missions, so I begin my last turn desperate to draw into Laas as my third SCIENCE. Renewal Scroll, Deputy Quark & Renewal Scroll get me Laas, though downloading Dr. Telek R'Mor would have worked, too.
I solve, and point out my artifact combo, but Barry and Kris were not convinced that the end result is a 100-point solve. Kris said that he'd rather err on the side of preventing those kinds of schenanigans. I respected that and didn't want to argue, since the win was not as important as the proof of concept. |

Kris and Klingons? At least he didn't blow up all my stuff. |
The Genius was looking to Non-Aligned, but had no answer for Spatial Rift and Quantum Incursions, which in tandem slowed him down for several turns. Losing points to Lack of Preparation was not ideal, but The Arbiter of Succession eventually powered me through a Dead End at Wormhole Negotiations for the win. FW 100-0. |

Somehow, I was able to get back into the game after a pretty hefty team of my guys died to Doubled Barclay's. In the end, it didn't go so well for me. |
This deck has become very familiar, having played against it in the last three local tournaments. Highly versatile in skills, but not overly specialised. I went through solving Navigate Argolis Cluster with Establish Dominion Foothold for 45 points and clearing out everything but a Dead End at Betazed Invasion things were looking good. A big hitting Barclays cleared out the droids for a bit until my battleships made it down to Barry's outpost. Unable to actually win a combat against his docked ship I had to wait a few turns which made me nervous. Surprisingly though he beamed down a couple personnel to his Duck Blind which I took full advantage of. Claiming 10 points for a Jem'Hedar Strike Force, I was able to get past the Dead End on Betazed and solve the same turn for the win. |

Closing Thoughts |
1E is Definitely a different animal than 2E, with a Lot of moving parts to watch out for. As can be seen in most of my 1E reports, it's never an easy task to remember all the "Wheels Within Wheels" that spin during a given game.
