Round 1 - vs Latok:
This was my first Block game, and when the missions were seeded (duplicating Steal Technology and Salvage Borg Ship) it looked like Latok was playing Klingon. And in fact he was. There's been talk on the boards about how the Klingons are really good in Block, so I was a little concerned.
We played a bunch of cards, then Latok felt ready to start attempting missions. He attempted his Outpost mission, Romulus, and got me a card draw with Flim-Flam Artist.
I decided to risk attempting, too, moving across to Revenge Plot. Forsaken sent DaiMon Bok to the bottom of my deck, and I did have enough Treachery and Cunning to get through New Essentialists. The Away Team didn't take well to being so far away from Ferenginar, and got Distracted By Thoughts Of Home. Then God blew up my only ship in play.
Latok reattempted, getting me another draw, then that dilemma was passed. Founder Secret stopped that attempt in its tracks, however. He sent a ship to the neighbouring mission, Seize Freighter, and redshirted. Magnetic Field Disruptions stopped Losta, the only crew member. another crew moved across, MFD stopped Vekor, the rest managed to continue. Distracted By Thoughts Of a Subspace Shock-Wave, the Mercenary Ship was damaged, and B'Somgh and TNG Koral died.
I'd managed to draw into the Kurdon, so that was my card play, and I downloaded DaiMon Bok from the bottom of my draw deck. With him and my freebies that turn, I moved back to Revenge Plot and reattempted with everybody. I pitched a spare Surprise Party, because Distracted... was still there. Bok and a bunch of folks got me to 35 points.
Latok solved the just-cleared-out Seize Freighter.
I move to attempt Amnesty Talks, but there weren't enough Diplomacy on the ship to pass Gomtuu Shock Wave. Fortunately, Tin Man put the Kurdon back on the outpost...
Founder Secret was passed, now Latok had HQ: War Room and a load of high-Strength Klingons in the attempt. Next up was Armus: skin Of Evil, and Captain Worf and Zegov were selected (I had All-Consuming Evil in play). ETU saved Worf. Back To Basics then put my destroyed ship back in my deck. This was the last dilemma under Romulus, and he solved, taking him to 65 points.
I TMW'd my Spock into play, and attempted Ferenginar. Dead End.
OK then...
Latok attempted Steal Technology (brave since we both seeded 3 dilemmas under it) with a small crew, saw Armus: Energy Field, and doesn't pass.
I sent a D'Kora Transport over to Amnesty Talks, and passed Gomtuu Shock Wave. Next up is Radioactive Garbage Scow. I have Range to move it, but not to get back.
Latok pitched Get It Done to raise Captain Worf's stats. Armus selected Kurak and Captain Worf, which stopped the attempt. Gowron pitched Make It So to unstop everybody, and rearranged some folk, Armus selected Vekor and Zegov from the attempt, and Kargan and Vekma from the other ship. Zegov was vital to the attempt, so Energy Field remained unpassed.
Gozar + War Room pass Subspace Shock Wave (phew!) and Birth Of Junior plays on the ship (only 2 Engineer aboard). I have the skills to solve, and solve I do, taking me to 70.
I move back to the Outpost, and put an extra Engineer on the ship to pitch Junior. I move the other Transport (the one with Spock) to Ferenginar, and attempt there. Distracted By Thoughts Of God, the ship in orbit blew up, leaving the mission clear.
Latok's card play was Isomagnetic Disintegrator, to get Zegov back. Armus: Energy Field is finally passed, but Gomtuu Shock Wave cuts short the attempt. And damages the ship.
Feeling the pressure, the Mercenary Vessel with a small crew try and Raid an Ancient Burial Site. Distracted By Thoughts Of Home when Armus spun his Roulette wheel (perhaps he should move from Vagra to Theta VIII), B'Somgh and Vekor found a new home in the discard pile, while Kargan and Vekor were stopped. This left Tallera to die a horrible death due to the Skin Of Evil. (I guess Armus did find a new home after all, Ancient Burial Site was at one end of the spaceline, Vagra II was at the other.)
I pitched the other Surprise Party, Spock and Quark hold their own party and solve Ferenginar for the win.
I had not remembered that there were so many dilemmas under Steal Technology, I thought that Energy Field would be passed a lot sooner and the other dilemmas would be busted through quickly, so I was a bit worried when he was attempting there, so the game seemed a lot closer to me than it probably was, but particularly when he hit 65 first. Good game!
Final score: 100-65 to me. |
