Tournament Report - 2E - Australian Continentals Day One
2015-07-04 - 10:30 AM
RelativityI have plenty of time!
Introduction
I didn't really want to think on Day One in between 1E continentals and Day Two (if I made it) so I used my speed solving Relativity. I added a Self Replicating Roadblock for early Gomtuu's which I always found a problem but I forgot to remove the Hindrance's and I'll also take out Geordi and Naomi Wildman because they're just liabilities. Also maybe take out the Wells I nevered play it, like ever because if I haven't won the game by the time I have 12 staffing stars out the Wells doesn't help with anything.

Round 1FerengiShane BrierleyFW (+35)
With Steve on an earned bye Shane was the most dangerous first round pair up I could've gotten. He revealed Ferengi missions and I remembered facing this deck at 2013 Australian Nationals where I beat it and won the tournament with Dominion. So from the start I was confident I could play dilemmas well enough to finish first. I definitely started well by forcing his first mission to 4 attempts over 4 turns but I did use Insurrection there which I would've rathered at the second mission. I'm pretty sure I had completed my first mission and was 1-2 attempts deep in to my planet by the time he started at his second mission, however at this point he had 9 counters (Gint/Surprise Party) base and also started dropping At What Cost's on top of Par Lenor and Rule #144 to really spew out orange toads. With 2 groups he got his second mission really quickly and caught up to me but he still had his hardest mission to go. I managed to stop two attempts in the one turn but it seemed unlikely for me to be able to do it another turn so I was under pressure. Under the pump and I manage to finish my second mission giving him 1/1 draw/spend and then for some reason I went space third I don't know why because it's only supposed to be for the new Dominion headquarters but this was my saving grace as Shane threw Hard Time(? some dual any way) and then two planet dilemmas handing me the win. I did actually have a fair chance to stop him next turn any way with 1 of the two dilemmas remaining in my pile before the reshuffle a Timescape, so if he attempted big and kept the small solve crew in reserve I would've got another turn any way.

Round 2Dominion SmileyFW (+100)View opponent's Report
New Dominion, OK this time I will do two space missions because I'm supposed to. What's worse is it's a battle deck or so says the Bred for Battle he dropped turn 2, at this point I regretted not adding the mission that prevents engagements/combat but only a little. Mike got his cheap jem'hadar out pretty quickly aided by Keevan and prevented one of my Temporal Transporters that tried to fetch Kirk for my first attempt. A Chula: The Game on the first mission worried me because it could tie me up there for a while but it seemed Mike was having trouble getting to an Invasive Transporters so maybe I could get it done in time. I dropped a Firestorm to get rid of his combat event for when he did come at me and eventually he did, beaming 7 or so Jem'hadar on to my ship but he didn't start combat with Yak'talon (which was most likely a mistake from him, forgetting Yak'talon). So I drew up in case of Crippling Strike and abandoned my space mission, I don't know why because there was 5 or 6 dilemmas under the mission, (maybe I was missing a skill from Hard Time or something) and went to Avert Danger, beamed down and started attempting. Mike didn't have another Invasive Transporters ready and went back to drawing a lot to get another one while his Jemmies chilled on my ship. Avert Danger went pretty quickly but I couldn't staff the ship same turn as the solve and Mike finally dropped a Friction which I had been waiting for with 2 Temporal Transporters in hand but with Mike's digging for an invasive Transporters he at least uncovered his Our Deaths and prevented both of them so I couldn't get Kirk and meant I'd have to play personnel the old fashioned way (to the ship swarming with Jem'hadar). Metron Arena was solved first or second attempt and then I just jumped back on the ship and finished my packed space mission for the win which was two turns after Friction came out and since one of those was spent playing Temporal Transporters I only had 3 stopped people on the ship from the last turn of the game. That meant Mike never battled and maybe even never attempted a mission (can't remember for sure).

Round 3DominionMatthew TingFL (-80)
Again my deck started faster, good because it's supposed to. Matt stopped me a couple of times at the first mission once with a solo Adopted Authority so none went under but I did eventually finish the mission before he had his first attempt. Where the game really turned was his first attempt at the planet Stakoron mission, I had 6/6 and got 4 space dilemmas with a Polywater and Timescape so with the help of Omet'iklan he completed the mission. Matt held me up at Avert Danger for a couple turns, with Adopted Authority making a repeat visit as well. So Matt went on to the space Stakoron mission and after a shitty draw at the first mission I wanted to keep the dilemma plays tight, I got a Rush Order that would get two stops and as long as for my stop selection I pick Omet'iklan he won't solve. So Matt flips my one dilemma and oh yeah I don't get a stop selection for Rush Order that's only if it has no command star not less than 4 staffing icons, Matt stops the two Breen out of the crew of 7 and complete the mission. Matt stops me one more time at Avert Danger but I have it no problem next turn and maybe can miraculously complete my third mission as well in one shot. Turns out I didn't get the chance I don't remember if Matt attempted Torga the turn before or if he double attempted on the last turn or if I just let him through in one attempt again but he won.

Round 4BajoranTNGsstevensFW (+90)
Scott was a new player with dual HQ Bajoran/TNG doing integrity missions, I could see some micro-teaming goodness coming and meant I wanted to get ahead early to make sure bad dilemma draws didn't lose me the game. Just kidding my deck doesn't care who I'm facing get ahead early is the only play it's got. To my advantage Scott didn't know Relativity with the Temporal Transporters and bullshit Data and Kirks so his dilemma throws weren't amazing and I was getting 2-3 under each attempt. He also seemed to be getting bad draws with a lot of high cost personnel on the table but no ship at the end.

Round 5CardassianSteve HartmannFW (+30)View opponent's Report
I've played against Steve's cardies back at 2012 Worlds and I think he won before I attempted a mission. This time I had a much faster deck and I was aware of all the cheaters and skill gaining he had available. I got a good start, third turn Data, OT Kirk, Icheb and Seven on the ship and attempting Evade Soliton Wave with 7, Steve assessed his dilemmas fairly quickly and throws one at me I say thank you use Kirk and take the mission. On top of the early mistake Steve didn't seem to be having a good draw as he was milling his deck at an extreme pace. When he did finally attempt a mission I was pretty confident that I was paying attention to who he played and I could just use one dilemma to stop him BUT making sure I didn't do a similar mistake as Steve did I threw extras. Turned out I thought Tain had 2 Programming but he only had 1 so Steve's crew was even easier to stop than I had thought. Steve used a couple of Central Commands on the attempt next turn to get the mission but his deck was extremely slim by this point and I was sure I could keep him out of two more missions before I got mine done. My Avert Danger fell eventually as well as Steve getting a second mission with his last Central Command and the last of his deck. So then I mopped up Metron Arena easily before he got his last mission.

Round 6Terok NorPeter HillFW (+100)
Pete dropped Harrad-sar first turn as well as Morn and Ezri to start his draw engine off. At this point I wasn't sure he was even playing Terok Nor personnel but I also got a good start and Pete's inexperience against Relativity led to an early lead before he had a ship in play. I got my second mission a turn or two later and Pete did get an attempt at space which I stopped with one or none under and a Gomtuu on the ship. Then I hit Metron Arena hard with a double attempted and wrapped the game up in 30 minutes, which I think Pete was actually pretty happy with since he wanted to get home.

Closing Thoughts
I'm not going to add the new Harry Kim to this deck. I would love another 8 Cunning personnel but Harry only has 7 and also Treachery which is almost always more of a liability with AIoT than it is helpful, the Revised Doctor has 2 Treachery for Occupational Hazards any way.
