[Draft] The K'Nutts! |
Introduction |
Started drafting Romulans, but they soon dried up. In pack 3 I opened Gowron and had noticed a few K'Vorts were appearing late in the previous pack, so I decided to go Rom/Kli and pick up K'vorts and other easy to staff ships if they were there.
I ended up building a decent solver which could turn into a really effective disruption/battle deck. At times I needed this when my opponents used their first 10 turns or so just to lay decent people. At that point, they could probably walk through my dilemma piles (which were pretty decent in all honesty), so I'd resort to dirty tactics - blow 'em up! |

Round 1 | | Marcus Smith | FW (-45) |
This match was absolutely epic and was very close for some considerable time. I think the dilemma piles just about swung the tie in my favour, as our decks were evenly matched in power.
After Marcus lost a considerable number of people when attempting a planet mission (FLI, MLI, Rebel Encounter, Ferengi Attack and possibly something else) i had a clear advantage with the number of personel on board.
A few carefully selected crews attempted mission before a ship loaded with Klingon and Romulan fools arrived to finish the job. |

Round 2 | | Paddy Tye | FW (-35) |
Paddy had 5 outposts.
Paddy quickly scored points.
Danny blew up 3 outposts and damaged another.
Danny managed to get one of Paddy's large away teams stranded on a planet.
Danny killed one every turn by initiating battle.
Paddy got within kicking distance of a sneaky win.
Danny completed 2 missions in the final turn for a full win. Sweet. |

Round 3 | | Unjustly Banned | FW (-35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The closest match by some distance. James put plenty of decent personnel into play and I played some comparitively weak people. When Red Alert! was put onto the table, I had a hand of K'vort whereas James had a hand of people.
At this stage it was looking really grim. Eventually James completed two missions and cleared the dilemmas for a third, but didn't have the skills to win.
At one stage I noticed his reluctance to attempt the final mission, so I build up a few crews and placed my ships across the spaceline in order to try and complete several missions in a single turn.
Just as it seemed as though James was going in for the kill, I attempted and successfully completed 3 missions in a single turn for the win. Phew! |
Danny was playing a Klingon/Romulan battle deck. I dropped Red Alert pretty quick and the next turn Danny dropped 4 ships. His outpost was about five missions over though, so I had time to build up a decent team of personnel. I breezed through a mission really quickly, had cleared the dilemmas at a second, and was working on my third mission before Danny's armarda appeared. He destroyed my ship in orbit, leaving about 10 personnel on the planet below. He had already played a Loss of Orbital Stability earlier and had used Res-Q to retreive it, so I knew that as soon as I flew another ship to the mission for my personnel, I'd lose them all. I completed the mission, and knew that I didn't really need any of those personnel for my final mission (which I had already cleared of dilemmas.) While Danny spent several turns killing my personnel on the planet, I was just hunting for the skill I needed for my last mission: Physics. Knowing that Danny still had the Loss of Orbital Stability in his hand, I formed two teams on two ships. I flew one over hoping Danny would use his interrupt on it, but he didn't. I guess that he decided to save it for the second ship. Naturally, the first ship was a bluff and my only Physics personnel was on board. I feigned that I had made a mistake, and just flew the ship home before ending my turn. Little did I know that he couldn't play the interrupt as I was at a space mission. The following turn, Danny completed three missions in one turn and won the game..

Round 4 | | Kevin Jackson | FW (-60) |
Having heard about the potential fleet I could muster, Kev was reluctant to put his large crew in danger, whilst I happily hovered around his outpost. I don't recall too much about the rest of the match, other than Kev's deck had very few dilemma cards and attempting missions wasn't as arduous a task as normal. |

Round 5 | | Niall Matthew | FW (-65) |
Niall quickly solved a mission for 30 points and used Subspace Warprift to try and stem the flow of ships heading his way. At one stage I used Loss of Orbital Stability to prevent his Vor'Cha from getting back to his outpost. He responded by using Rogue Borg Merceneries in order to prevent me from getting enough ships across to blow it up with a full hit. Unfortunately for Niall, a RBM of my own meant his ship was stopped for the second turn in succession and my fleet of K'vorts caused a "Kaboom" on Niall's side of the table.
I then took out Niall's two outposts and the game was mine. Good show my man and thanks to you and Kev for making the 'trek' down from Aberdeen!

Round 6 | | William Hoskin | FW (-100) |
Probably the oddest game of the lot. One dilemma combo completely crippled Will.
Hippo Oath took his only medical, Hyper Aging quarantined him and put a clock on his large crew, and Conundrum meant he needed a near miracle to recover the situation. |

Round 7 | | Bye | BY (0) |
My most pleasant opponent. Didn't give me any hassle at all. |
